Can anyone explain how it is possible that when living on an island, such as Madeira (Portugal), the level of negative stress and tension is far more lower than when living in a country like the UK, Germany, Netherlands, etc. ? Even when working more than 10 hours per day and even in the weekend (on Madeira) and before we only worked 32 – 36 hours per week.

Can stress be affected by the surroundings where one is located? Does one feel (automatically) more tension in a big city than elsewhere?

For example when you are at the cinema you can feel the ‘crowd’ depending on the kind of film. Or when you are at a stadium you feel the tension or the happiness … depending on the game.

Can a peaceful island emit tranquillity? and NY emits stress 24 hours 7 days in the week?

Is there a biological / scientific answer? Spiritual answer?

Stressors are largely environmental; how you respond to stress can be linked biologically, socially and spiritually.

A tropical island can be a remarkably stress-free environment, if you are not worried about where your next meal will come from, if there will be enough drinking water, if medical help will be available, etc.

At the same time, someone comfortable in, and used to, a noisy big city might feel stressed out the the quiet and solitude of a secluded island.
