Because they chose a Catholic to be Pope. Just for the record, the pope does NOT have to be Catholic according to Cannon Law. But I don't think you'll see the day the Pope isn't Catholic.

It all goes back to Pope Peter, the first Pope whom Jesus made as a Pope. The legacy of Popes followed after and Catholicism started back then and carried on. It shouldn't matter what religon the Pope is. What matters is he's spreading the word of God which is the most important. All religons branched off the Catholic religon. Catholic was the first religon created...

Because the Catholic Church is the one who decides who will be the next pope (naturally they will pick a catholic)... and Catholicism is the only religion that needs and recognize the Pope!!!

When the apostle's established churches they appointed bishops to head them. The Pope (Papa, Father) is the current successor to Saint Peter as the bishop of Rome. From the beginning, there was only the Catholic church. (Protestants only came around in the last few centuries). The term "catholic" basically refers to the church "on the whole", meaning when the bishops congregate (ecumenical councils) under the leadership of the successor of Peter.

it is catholic tradition to elect a representative to god, the closest thing to god on earth. see, isn't it just so stupid?
all religions have a highest of high priests, but really they are
being propped up so the religion has an identifiable idiot to head it up. what a waste of time.
