They really don't come from a dirty house but they can be around and just come into your house. Try bombing your house see if that helps. If that doesn't help see an exterminator!!!!

Call pest control people and have them spray your house. You'll have to take your cats and baby away for a couple hours, but then bugs wont be around your house. It isn't that expensive either. If your really worried then just call the pest control people, they will help you take care of the problem.
If you don't want to do that then buy the cockroach things from the store that kills them, and put one under all the sinks in the house and in the closets, that is what we did to our house and haven't seen any for years now (knock on wood). Just make sure they aren't were baby can get them or the cats can get them.
Either one of those should take care of your problem and then you will not have to worry about your baby eating one.
Good luck hope this help some.

Not only must be clean, if you live in close proximity to your neighbors, their homes must be clean too. Once cockroaches get established they are difficult to get rid of completely. they are an unfortunate fact of life.
Unfortunately, your toddler doesn't have to eat one to have negative on his health. Studies show that children who live in places with cockroach infestations are more likely to have allergies and other health and breathing problems. Cockroaches carry diseases.
You didn't say what part of the country you live in or what type of cockroaches you have. There is one type of cockroach in some parts of the southeast US that is relatively harmless. They don't like to live inside, don't like the foods we eat and are more solitary than other roaches. they usually only go inside for water or to stay warm. One exterminator called them "wood roaches" for their food preference.
I recommend getting an exterminator he can put the 'bait' where your baby and cats can't reach it.
Evolutionary scientist state that they've been around a lot longer than people and will be here long after we are gone, they are that adaptable.

I HAVE THE ANSWER!!..i myself have a 6 month old and i am a total germ-a-phobe...but i have found that when i put the roach bait motels down around under the sinks and in the kitchen behind the frig or washer and then throw about 20 of them onder the house in the crawl space...well it works like a charm....our back yard sometimes gets huge water puddles when it rains and the "waterbugs" love it...but when i did that,well..no more bugs..i havent seen any in over 5 months! i used the "raid roach motels"....good luck!! p.s. i highly recommend this method since u have a baby,u dont want poison just laying around the house...u can put these lil motels outta sight where he cant get to them..... ;)

actually surprisingly enough cockroaches prefer to live in a relatively clean environment they are very clean animals they spend most of their time grooming themselves food is what attracts them they also really like paper so you should make sure that you do not have any paper bags like from the grocery store laying in a pile somewhere or alot of paper work i doubt that your son will eat a cockroach unless it is already dead and if that is the worst thing that your son eats when he is alive then you should feel lucky my sisters son used to eat cat poop out of the litter box when he was little if you are really worried about the roaches call an exterminator

Not necessarily. If you live near someone who has roaches, or if someone has been to your place, and they have roaches, then you can get them too. Also, it's very important that you DO NOT step on them. Get them exterminated, or use Raid. If you step on them, you could get the eggs of a possibly pregnant female roach on your shoe, and then you will most definitely get roaches after having walking into your house with the shoes. Get that taken care of immediately, because roaches have been known to carry up to about 40 bacteria carrying diseases!!!

You can have a clean house and still have roaches. It's just a matter of how well your house was built. Especially since it's summer, it's prime for pests like roaches and ants to start appearing everywhere.

No, this isn't true at all. True, if your house is especially dirty, then you probably will end up with roaches. If your house is clean and you still have them, they're probably coming from a neighbor.

I'm in the Caribbean and we get loads of roaches too, it's not from having a dirty house.
The boric acid is good but VERY TOXIC - I wouldn't use it around a crawling baby.

Well a dirty house helps them multiply. From what I understand if your neighbour has an infestation then you have an infestation no matter how clean your house is.
Call a exterminator, some give advice and inspection at a reasonable price.

does not matter how clean your house is. They can be in the boxes or bags from grocery store....... and when I say boxes I do not mean they kind you carry your groceries in, I am talking about cereal boxes, crackers and cookies...etc.....The best way to combat them is this.............. Take boric acid and sprinkle behind stove refrigerator and all the cracks and corners of your home... bathroom too! Remember toothpaste and soap come in cardboard! The boric acid clings to them and they drag it back to the nest were it kills them all. then try to keep new cardboard packages from entering the house or throw away immediately. You may think it is silly, but it does work.
