People have to realize that even if it does get built, illegal immigrants will always find a way in. It doesn't matter whether or not the walls gets built, because they will continue to be here. In other words, building the wall will just be another example of how we waste our money. Think about it!!!

It don't matter. Coyotes are charging so much, it's getting to the point to where illegals are just taking a plane over to Canada and coming in that way.

However, soon there may be no point. What people haven't noticed is that Mexico is changing. The economy is growing, and once the general public get a taste of true capitalism, it's impossible to turn it back without a major war. And if Mexico went into civil war, it wouldn't be a surprise that in the interest of national security the US would step in, just as it has in other parts of the world.

Some day, Mexico may become just like the US, making the wall obsolete.

it won't work. The great wall of China didn't work. The Magnot line didn't work.

The only way the wall works is if you man every inch of it and shoot anyone crossing it. But then they will just tunnel underneath it. And if you think they can't build functional tunnel undetected, go visit the DMZ in Pan Mun Jong.

The only way to stop the mexicans from coming over is to make Mexico not suck. Figure out how to do that and we've got a solution.

I think the Mexican government should offer land free to Americans who want to build factories there. Then the same Mexicans who want to come here to work can do so in their home. Wealthy Americans will move in to build housing communities and provide customers for the Walmarts and Home Depots where the Mexicans like to work anyway and we will build up a community there in Mexico. Reverse the flow get Americans moving to Mexico to work in new cheap communities. Get your Young 20 somethings saving up money for a Centex home down to Mexico in a Centex home for half the price, in a brand new school, have their kids grow up with the advantage of learning two languages and dual citizenship.

Or just do like we did to Hawaii. There's room for 51 stars on the Flag.

No I don't think so...by doing that we're isolating ourselves which at this time is the last thing we want to do. It would be sending the wrong message. A good example of that would be the Berlin wall. It didn't stop people from escaping into West Germany. A wall along the border wouldn't stop illegal immigrants either.

Isn't the real question whether it would be effective?

Americans seem to be very riled up about border defense, but the simple truth is that illegal immigrants are in this country because government has allowed them to enter.

Business interests push for the cheap labor, and political interests want to buy the hispanic vote.

Walls won't amount to anything if laws are not enforced in the first place.

Why not? We build fences to seperate us from our neighbors. But if we're going to do it I'd prefer a moat stocked with Salt Water crocs. You just build a wall and someone will dig a tunnel under it. Now you do a moat and it's a whole different story!

no, just imagine what will happen for spring break? really, do u think a wall will help? no, there r tunnels underground & ppl will definitley get through as long as they r willing & able. if these ppl r willing to risk their lives through the hot desert, do u think they won't find other means or trails to cross over, under or through a wall? realism can just bite u in the @zz sometimes.

Of course! We also need to be comprehensive though, and enforce our laws already in place. ilegal aliens need to be returned (at their expense) to their countries and prevented from re-entering. ...and by the way Mexico's economy is improving because Fox is ridding himself of his poor, so of course things are getting better there, but what about here? Lock ALL our borders down, and enforce immigration laws!!

Ill go one better. Not only is it ok to build a wall, its JUST fine to ELECTRIFY it and put machine guns every 50 yards. They try to cross....we let them fry on the wall. If they survive, pump em full of lead. This is OUR country. If they want democracy and a better life, let them FIGHT for it like our forefathers did for US.
