Back when i was younger i can remember going outside and seeing loads of them, now you're lucky if you see a few...whats going on?

yeah well a few met my windshield. they glow for a while after they go splat...

Traveling through West Virginia last summer I found a majority of them. The trees sparkled like someone had strung Christmas lights. I live in Michigan and I watched a fair show of them just last night from my front porch. They are around but with more and more subdivisions filling their natural habitats they are harder to find.

I think many pesticides are being used today that weren't used years ago. Our environment is becoming more and more toxic and dangerous every day and we can only expect this to continue as the earths population continues to increase.

I was thinking the same thing. There are very few of them here in Ohio this year. This story addresses the point briefly.

Pesticides and the un-natural garden. Plant more native plants and don't use bug sprays and they wil come back.

All the little kids that trapped them in jars until they died killed off the majority of the species.

I would think it has to do with your location, weather, and light pollution.
