Pitbulls or any dog for that matter can be "mean and nasty". I have a pitbull who was trained properly and is the sweetest, gentlest dog I know, and is wonderful with children. If you properly train A NY dog and socialize them when they are young they will be fine. Anyone who says that a specific breed of dog is mean, nasty, etc is not educated on the subject or dog breed. I know a chihuahua who has more of an attitude than any pitbull I have ever met. Any dog big or small if trained or raised wrong can become a dangerous dog. You should however, never leave any dog along with a small child no matter how gentle or how well you think you know the dog--that is just common sense.

No they are not! I have owned Pits and I know others that own Pits. The only bad pitbull in the world is an awful owner. The reason pits and other dogs like that get a bad name is because you never see the story about a poodle attacking a person. It could do damage, but the story is not appealing. Also you always hear about the big dog hurting someone, well their mouths are bigger so they can do more damage than a small dog. Pits and any other large dog can be a great addition to your family as long as they are given the love and attention you would give any other dog you own.

Pitbulls are actually very sweet Dogs. I grew up around them all my life, I'm only 13 but that's not the point. Every pit i have had were very sweet and gentle around everyone. They have never ever hurt anyone or anything. I currently have one now who is therapy dog as well as agility. Any dog can be considered aggressive, it's all on how you raise them. Media is only ever going to tell you the bad stuff about pitbulls. And actually German Shepherds are more likely to attack than pitbulls.
So please educate yourself on pitbulls before saying their mean and nasty

Pitbulls are great dogs and just like any other dogs they require time. If you give your children no time and neglect them they will also be "bad". The media just wants to scare us the viewers with a bunch of opinions that make little to no scientific sense. Keep calm and if you are scared of pitbulls just back up and walk away slowly. Don't go hit or kick it and stop spreading fake facts about something you don't know about. Ask people who deal with dogs for living they can give you facts not some journalist that stereotypes everything from humans to insects.

Pitbulls are amazing, and super intelligent, they just need the right owner. I have a pitbul and she is the sweetest little dog Ive ever met. Every day when I get home she runs to me and starts licking my face, she loves to lick people haha. Everyone in my neighborhood is scared of her even though she's an angel. Just because people were cruel to them, people think that they are all vicious. They're not.

I think they're sweethearts! I just got my first about a month ago (dh has had 2 or 3) and she is the sweetest most gental (albeit clumbsy, lol) dog ever. She does tend to get a bit excited, but she's never intentionally hurt one of the kids, she knocked over my middle daughter who's 4 once, lol, but that's about it. She's even great with our other pets (a beagle/lab mix, a cat, and a bunny!). I think it mostly depends on how you raise and train them, although you should also look at the parents to see how they may become, but that's not always 100%.

It's not the dog - it's the training the dog receives. My neighbor has a lovely 2 yr old female pitt, that is the sweetest, best behaved dog ever. She loves to come over and play with my dogs. Would I own one - no, but not because they are a nasty dog, it's just not a dog that appeals to me - same as a doxie, poodle or bassett.

Yea I agree it is not the pit it is their owner and or the training they receive, but mostly it is the male pit who is the one that loves fighting, I have a pit X chow and she is the most lovable dog a person can have. But everyone warned me get rid of that dog it will still turn on you, but believe me, I don't have to smack her all I have to do is talk a little loud to her and she sulks, so anyone that says pits are mean and nasty have never been near one of those dogs. Why don't you try and be near one you will change your attitude towards them Believe me

Pitbulls are only mean and nasty if their owners are mean and nasty. The ones with good owners are as sweet as can be:)
