The Ten Commandments were given to Moses at a time of great tribulation in the lives of the Hebrew children. Even while God was departing this wisdom, the Hebrew Children were worshiping idols in Moses absence. Though given at a special time to a special people who had special needs, the Ten Commands are just as appropriate today. You may want to obtain a modern day version of the Bible to better understand what the Bible says for today.

I'll make it easy for you...This is what I teach my preschool Sunday school class:
1. One God, none is greater than him.
2. Don't pray to a statue or an image.
3. Don't use cuss words with God's name in it.
4. Sunday is for rest & reflection of Gods grace.
5. Be good for your Mom & Dad. Treat them with respect.
6. Don't kill another living being.
7. Married couples can only try to make babies with each other.
8. Don't take things that are not yours.
9. You should not make up lies about people.
10.You should not be jealous of things that other people have.
The adultry issue in the 7th commandment is a little hard to explain to a 4 year old, but I'll explain it better for you. If you are married, you can only have sexual relations with your spouse.

I love "Susan G"'s answer, so I won't add to it. Instead, I'd like to comment on your not being able to understand the Bible.
Assuming you are a believer, perhaps you're attempting to read the King James Version. This version was published in 1611 using the common language of the day. No wonder so many people can't understand it, particularly if they're new in the faith.
Try the New International Version (NIV). It's very easy to understand. Once you become used to God's Word, you can then move on to other versions that many consider more accurate, such as the New King James (my personal favorite).
I pray this helps you!

3"Do not worship any other gods besides me.
Dont worship any other Gods but GOD
4"Do not make idols of any kind, whether in the shape of birds or animals or fish. 5You must never worship or bow down to them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not share your affection with any other god! I do not leave unpunished the sins of those who hate me, but I punish the children for the sins of their parents to the third and fourth generations. 6But I lavish my love on those who love me and obey my commands, even for a thousand generations.
Dont go worshipping anything or any animal at all....
7"Do not misuse the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
Dont say G** D***
8"Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9Six days a week are set apart for your daily duties and regular work, 10but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any kind of work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; then he rested on the seventh day. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.
Keep the seventh day holy, set aside for worship.
12"Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God will give you.
Love your parents
13"Do not murder.
Dont kill anyone
14"Do not commit adultery.
Dont sleep with someone who is not your spouse
15"Do not steal.
Dont take what is not yours
16"Do not testify falsely against your neighbor.
Dont tell lies
17"Do not covet your neighbor's house. Do not covet your neighbor's wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else your neighbor owns."
Dont want things that belongs to others.

The ten commandments are perfect as the Psalmist said. The ten commandments can be summed up this way - the first four tells us how to worship and love God; the last six tells us how to love and respect our fellow man and what he owns. Read them again and you will see.

The following is the text of the commonly accepted (by Christian and Jewish authorities) commandments as found in the book of Exodus 2:1-17, New Revised Standard Version of the Christian Bible. Because Jewish, Protestant, Orthodox, and Catholic traditions divide the commandments in different fashions, they are presented below without itemization.
Then God spoke all these words: saying: (2)"I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage:
”I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; (3) you shall have no other gods before me. (4) You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (5) You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, (6) but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. (7) You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name. (8) Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. (9) For six days you shall labour and do all your work. (10) But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. (11) For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it. (12) Honour your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. (13) You shall not murder. (14) You shall not commit adultery. (15) You shall not steal. (16) You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour. (17) You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.
