It wasn't an issue until it effected his performance. If he is doing it so much that he is skipping sex with you in order to pleasure himself, that is a problem. Why is it that a relationship is always evaluated in terms of sexual perfomance or by just bodily desires. There are a lot of others things in a relationship than sex.Try and concentrate on things you can do to distract him from thinking about sex.
