Update: I asked my lawyer, and they said they were doing a sponsorship where I would be able to go back and forth. I plan on going to school in Michigan, but live in Canada this coming fall. We live about 30 minutes from the border.

Well, technically you are allowed to go to Canada. You just will not be able to come back to US because you don't have any documents showing your status in the US. Paperwork in process is not enough and the only reason is that you might be not approved later when INS makes decision.
Sorry, you have to wait a little bit.

Good Luck.

Depends on which paper work you are doing? If you are doing spousal paper work being submitted from within Canada then no it is not reccommended you leave Canada. The more you leave then the more concern the CIC will have. If you are submitting spousal paperwork from the US then, you do have the right to visit your spouse... they can't keep you from seeing them.

All depends on the paper work you are submitting, you should check your documents before you take off. there is no guarentee that when you leave Canada that they will let you back in. You might just void any paper work and or visas that you have in the process.
