The difference, according to Ortho-McNeil (the company that makes them) is the level of hormones. Additionally, the Tri-Cyclen and Tri-Cyclen Lo are triphasic. A triphasic oral contraceptive has different levels of the progestin component, and occasionally estrogen, in each of the three weeks of active pills.

OC: Combination contraceptive product containing 0.250mg norgestimate and 0.035mg ethinyl estradiol.

OTC: Combination tri-phasic oral contraceptive containing:
0.180mg norgestimate/0.035mg ethinyl estradiol
0.215mg norgestimate/0.035mg ethinyl estradiol
0.25mg norgestimate/0.035mg ethinyl estradiol

*norgestimate = progesterone and estradiol = estrogen.*

For details about side effects and which is best for you, consult your doctor.

It's technically dependent on the level of hormones. Some give you a low-dose and others a high-dose. Talk to your doctor before deciding which one's best.

i believe ortho tri cylcen has three different levels of hormones, and with ortho-cyclen, the hormone levels stay the same.

ortho tri cyclen has white, light blue, and blue tablets.
Each white tablet contains 0.180 mg of the progestational compound, norgestimate (18,19-Dinor-17-pregn-4- en-20-yn-3-one,17-( acetyloxy)-13-ethyl-, oxime,(17α)-(+)-) and 0.035 mg of the estrogenic compound, ethinyl estradiol (19-nor-17α-pregna, 1,3,5( 10)-trien-20-yne-3,17-diol).

Each light blue tablet contains 0.215 mg of the progestational compound norgestimate (18,19-Dinor-17-pregn-4- en-20-yn-3-one, 17-( acetyloxy)-13-ethyl-, oxime,( 17α)-(+)-) and 0.035 mg of the estrogenic compound, ethinyl estradiol (19-nor-17α-pregna, 1,3,5 (10)-trien-20-yne-3,17-diol).

Each blue tablet contains 0.250 mg of the progestational compound norgestimate (18,19-Dinor-17-pregn-4- en-20-yn-3-one, 17-(acetyloxy)-13-ethyl-, oxime,( 17α)-(+)-) and 0.035 mg of the estrogenic compound, ethinyl estradiol (19-nor-17α-pregna, 1,3,5 (10)-trien-20-yne-3,17-diol)

with ortho-cylen you only have blue tablets with the same levels of hormones.

Each blue tablet contains 0.250 mg of the progestational compound, norgestimate (18,19-Dinor-17-pregn-4- en-20-yn-3-one,17-(acetyloxy)-13-ethyl-,oxime,(17α)-(+)-) and 0.035 mg of the estrogenic compound, ethinyl estradiol (19-nor-17α-pregna,1,3,5(10)-trien-20-yne-3,17-diol).

hope this helps!
