You would have to say where you're from because it's relative. I live in London which is as expensive as living in New York. However, eating out, public transport and owning a car is dirt cheap in New York compared to here.

London and South East England is the most expensive region in the UK but other cities are considerably cheaper. However, EU and UK citizens don't have to pay for healthcare insurance. We don't have extortionate tuition fees. We have a welfare state safety net in times of emergencies which the US does not have or to a limited extent.

As an international student, it is very expensive. The dollar is weak against the pound. You'll be limited in the number of hours you're allowed to work. However, a friend of mine said that it work out cheaper paying the full tuition fees and living expenses here than it would have cost her doing it in Boston on a Masters course. Do you homework before you come.

In the opinion of this American, living in the UK is a dream. I cry every time I have to leave there. Depending on where you live and what type of job you're after, getting a part-time job during the school year is relatively easy, retail and office work is the easiest to get. Use your school employment office if they have one. As for the money thing, don't go to the pub more than once a week (drinking is expensive in the UK) and don't look at you money as if it is your home currency, remember that you are spending pounds. 1 pound is a dollar times 2!
