A normal 17 year old guy would not be afraid!

He may not like it, he may be embarrassed, he may even hate Wal-Mart, but he won't fear it.

If it is true fear, the odds are the fear is related to some anxiety disorder. He may fear crowds, which most Wal-Marts do have.

My bet is that he fears, being seen there by anyone he knows... embarrassment. That should be an embarrassment to all of us! To judge someone on where they shop, talk about being materialistic society.

If he doesn't have an anxiety disorder, don't worry about it. It's a free country.

As to the Wal-Mart bashing going on here... It's never good to generalize.

Not all people who shop at Wal-Mart are "white trash".

I've been to Wal-Marts all over the country, and have yet that remind me of Deliverance, however I think I remember them selling the movie.

Wal-Mart does not support slave labor, any more than any other department store. Most of the brand name 'American' items are made overseas, by underpaid people! You don't want to support slave labor... you had better start reading the "made in ____" tags of what you have on now, then check out your computer, and all those other little toys you have.

About the old folks, hey guys/gals you will be old one day too! I think it's great that they allow these people to work part time. Many people on Social Security, can't afford to buy the basics, that little pay check may mean the difference of having something to eat or not. For others it gives them a reason to get out of bed. Many of our older citizens, have no family near by and have out lived their friends. Something as simple as a little part time job saying 'hello' at Wal-mart at least offers some social interaction.

Food for thought, the people who work and shop at your local Wal-mart are locals. When you bash them, you are bashing your own community.

Wal-mart isn't for everyone, however there is no reason to put someone down just because the choose to shop there.

End of 'soap box'

How to deal? Let him be. Wal-Mart sucks so do not blame him for not going. Those who shop at Wal-Mart support the slave labor of the world being that most of the goods wal-mart sells comes from China. Bad place to shop. Plus, there is a bunch of trailer trash at that store all the time.

How do you deal with perfectly normal 17 year old guy that is afraid of going to Wal-Mart?

Aw don't blame the boy none.
I'm a might afeard to go to to the wal-mart here in Texas, muhself.

First of all, none of them buggies work...all of em's missin' a wheel or two....but they still got an ole woman passin 'em out. She's got that old timer's disease and puts stickers on the foreheads of children and adults too.

An ya never ken find anything because they keep movin' it. They got employees who's only job is to walk around. Ever seen the old movie "Dawn of the Dead"? Puts you en mind of the scene at the shoppin' mall.........where them Zombies are just walking around and moanin

And when you finally do get what ya need and push that three legged shoppin' cart to the check out line.....there ain't but one cashier. And she looks like her diploma says "knows colors and can count to ten"

My advice?
" Let the boy be"!

Well, if he can spend the rest of his life avoiding Wal-Mart, this might not be so much of a serious problem.

However, unreasonable fears and anxiety can be symptoms of a mental disorder such as social anxiety disrder or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Perhaps this person could benefit from treatment by a mental health professional.

Shoot, I'm afraid of going to Wal-Mart, too. Have you SEEN the people there?

Let him be. There really isn't any need to go into Walmart. In fact, he is probably performing a public service by not supporting it.
