Rottweilers aren't bad animals. I like rottweilers. Rottweilers are loyal pets but have a higher aggressive rating than other dogs. Dogs in the same category are Dobermans and Pitt bulls. Rottweilers are also likely to be more aggressive than say a Golden Retriever. But if you train your dog right, they can be the best pet ever.

Rottweilers are natural protectors and a dominate breed.
They require a owner who can train them properly and teach them . We grew up with several Rotts and never once had a problem. They would be watchful of strangers but they were doing their job protecting the house and us.

They do have dog aggression but with proper social skills they will learn what is acceptable.

I firmly believe that only a person who is aware of the breed and is willing to take the time should get a Rott. Some are more protectors then others It goes back to their bloodline.
The owner needs has to establish order in their home and show the dogs it's place in it's home. If the owner doesn't show control the Rott will step up to the job of being Alpha. Of course you can show the dog love and affection but they need a firm non-aggressive training.

Also on a health issue they do have problems with their hips and require supplements to help this

Rottweilers are a large strong breed that seem to appeal to alot of people. People buy a rott not realizing what they are getting into, get in over their heads, and do not know what to do with the dog once it is out of control. Rottweilers were bred for guarding. It is in their nature to be not necessarily unpredicable, but untrusting. Due to the guarding instinct, they are very territorial and very loyal to their owner. It is a dog that I would not recommend you just go and adopt at an adult stage unless you have the experience to handle the dog. I'm not saying they are all man eaters, and don't deserve a second chance. You just need to be fully informed on what you are getting. Read up and ask questions. Good luck!

any dog can be aggressive..even a chihuahua, they all have teeth and can do damage, its just a matter of degrees.

and its not the dog...but the owner, AND the breeding!
ive seen a lot of ppl say that "its the owner, its how it was raised." and that is very true...but you also have to take into account the conditions of the breeding that took place to make that pup.
were the parents aggressive dogs...were they breed to BE aggressive, were they "low quality"...i.e. from some backyard breeder.
a well bred Rottie will be gentle and PROTECTIVE of his family....protective and aggressive are TWO different things...and ppl are getting them mixed together.
if you take a very aggressively known male and bred him to an equally low quality female...you will end up with pups that have aggressive tendencies, no matter what training its had...and THOSE dogs should only be owned by experienced ppl. *they shouldn't be bred at all...but it happens*
what happens instead....some unsuspecting person goes to their local pet shop or wal-mart parking lot, or add in the paper...and picks up a pup, who's breeding is never questioned because "oh isn't he cute!" and there you have it. a badly bred dog in a good, unsuspecting home. and 2yrs later when the dog reaches maturity....you end up with a dog that 1. has had little to no training. 2. bad breeding. 3. aggressive tendencies
and that is a BAD mix....no matter how great the owner is!

Rottweilers are not mean.......people make them mean and vicious....

Its the way you care and train a dog which make them friendly,obidient,fierce,clever,lazy.......etc.

Dogs usually can sense human intentions towards them....
If you look at a dog in a way that it shows you are friendly and mean no harm,it will not attack you.(Vice Versa)

So,do not judge any dogs by their breed or name.
How bout those people who has Rottweilers as their pet for a long time witout any problems?

My advice to you is that, you should read and get to know more about these dogs or anyhing else by yourself rather than listening to people whom are not sure themselves about the particular matter.

Good Luck!!!

It all depends on how the owner of the animal has raised it. I have a cousin that had both a Rottweiler and a Doberman. Both dogs were so gentle especially toward other animals.

Rotties are big old sweetie pie dogs :-) My daughter's babysitter has one and he is just the loviest lump of dog I've ever seen. My daughter is 3, and he loves her half to death & stands outside the bedroom door while she is having her nap. Rotties are gentle giants.

Keep on petting the humane society ones-they need love just like other breeds.

,All dogs have personalities like humans, they can be gentle or violent, have bad tempers and can even like some of us be mentally unstable. The problem with the large powerful dogs if they do turn on you for whatever reason, they can do enormous damage, even kill. You may say my dog will never do that , but the risk is always there.

not all dogs are mean, it just depends on how someone raised the animal, if the owner raised it with cruelty then it will be aggressive, if they raised it with TLC then the dog is sweet.. It's just the reputation of rottweilers that make people be live that they are vicious
