A memory foam mattress requires a very rigid and flat box spring. Really it is misleading to call it a box spring, because there is no "spring" it is just a box. You would void the warranty on the newly purchased mattress if you used your current box spring. You can avoid this issue by purchasing the box spring that goes with the mattress or purchasing a new platform bed. Mattresses and boxes tend to age at the same rate. The problem with your current mattress may be a result of the box spring. The frame should be ok with the new bedset, as long as there is a center support for queen or king sized beds.

Not all memory foam beds are created equal. Ask lots of questions and take home information. I would recommend the lines by Sealy and Tempurpedic. There is also a line of Latex beds by Sealy that customers also liked. Take your time and shop around. All companies have a little bit of room to play on the price. Remember that often your "price reduction" will limit what you can get when and if you need replacement.

I was a store manager for a specialty bedding store called Mattress Firm. I would highly recommend you going to one of their stores and ask any sales person there any questions you may have. They have free delivery and free removal on purchases of bedsets that are over $900. They also pride themselves on same or next day delivery! And if you go with a set that is not memory foam you get additional warranty coverage at no additional charge.

If you do that, the guarantee on the mattress is void. Best to get the whole set.

No it has to be a flat surface to support the mattress. i guess you could put a piece of plywood on top of your old boxspring.
