I went to the doctor yesterday and he said my hip and lower back pain is caused by a sacral rotation in my left hip. I have looked all over the web to figure this out in plain english and I still don't understand. What is it and how can I help myself here?

Lumbosacral rotation - it is a rotation of one of the discs in the lower back - the disc being the cartiladge that separates your vertebrae. There is a nerve called the sciatic nerve that gets pinched there. It runs from your lower back and down into your thighs. The condition is not in your hip, but what you are feeling is the transmission of nerve impulse pain going into your lower hip, from the stress being put on your sciatic nerve.

The person above me answered your question beautifully. Now, what to do about it... Go to a good chiropractor. He or she can relieve the pain pretty easily most of the time. Most M.D.'s don't give chiropractic medicine a fair shake. Talk to a few chiropractors and your M.D. and develop your own informed opinion.
