I believe the usual formulation is, "Bless me, father, for I have sinned."

This is meant to acknowledge the Catholic doctrine that the occasion of sin is also the occasion of grace -- that is, whenever you sin, that's God's chance to bring his grace to you.

In each case, the first is correct. In the Bible (Matthew 16:19; 18:18), Jesus told the apostles, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." We believe that the apostles passed on this authority through the laying on of hands - a sacrament that blessed a person with the Holy Spirit and consecrated them as a minister of Christ. Thus each of the Apostles' successors has been given the same authority to forgive sins as the Apostles were given. That is why priests today can say 'your sins are forgiven.'

well you actually say "bless me father, for i have sinned" the priest doesnt forgive your sins God does,by repenting your sins to one of God's servants on earth, you are asking God for forgiveness... the priest absolves you in the name of The Trinity not by his own name
