I have had great difficulty in trying to find this information. The name of Longuinus the soldier who speared Jesus in his side is well known but unfortunately I can't find the name of the Centurian in charge.

I wonder why many people are xtns without striving to find out detail about this faith?
There are so many missing links in the bible- the supposed guide of the xtn faith. After the arrest of Jesus, the partinent questions remain un answered till date. that is, who was writing the bible? Recall the statement of Jesus that when he will be betrayed that all the disciples will forsake him. They all did including the one that promise to stay by his side. This explains why the account of the bible after the arrest of Jesus was filled with great disorder. For instance, who can answer the question-from the biblical account- how many hours/days did Jesus spent on the cross. Perhaps you should resolve this before asking for the name of the soldier that struck his side,
Paul did say that once the crucifiction of Jesus is turned down, then why call yourself xtns? Think this man!

Poncious Pilate?

the superior was Pontious Pilate, but he washed his hands off the entire ordeal and is therefore legally and spiritually not responsible for the crucifixion...remember that the jews had blackmailed him and promised to tell Ceasar about his "misdeeds", he was therefore left with no alternative but to handover Jesus to the sick crowd....
