I agree with the other answerers. Spicy food actually increases your metabolism (although only moderately -- don't expect a miracle weight loss). I think it also supresses your appetite a bit too.
Remember, you become fat by consuming more calories than you expend in a day. Eat too much food -- you become overweight. Eat less, you lose weight.
