God bless you for your devotion and desire to seek understanding.
I always explain the trinity like this. When God married Adam and Eve. He said they were no longer two people but one flesh. He meant they were still two people but with one agreement, one unit. You see one you see the other. They agree as one.
The trinity is much the same way. God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Ghost are three that always agree as one unit. Much better than any married couple.
In the Holy Bible, John 14:6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father, but by me.
You may be familiar with the old testament Deuteronomy 17: 6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.
There are always two that bear witness in heaven.
When God the Father judges us on judgment day, He will have two witnesses, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

The concept of the Trinity states that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all parts of the same God and always have been. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus instructs the apostles: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." This idea also appears in 2 Cor. 13:14 and Heb. 9:14, as well as in the writings of the earliest Christians, who clearly understood it in the sense that we do today—that the Father, the Son, and the Spirit are three divine persons who are one divine being (God). Where is the Biblical justification for each? The Father, we've always known through the OT. Christ, we see in the NT, performing miracles, preaching, forgiving sins, and being resurrected. The Holy Spirit, we find at the Baptism of Christ and others, at Pentechost, and at the laying on of hands.
The deciding factor in whether or not you are a Christian is your belief in Jesus. If you think Jesus was the Son of God and the Messiah, then you are a Christian. Most Christians believe in the Trinity, but that's not necessary in the strict definition of the term.

If you have a king James Version Bible read 1 John 5:7 Think of the Trinity like this. The sun (in the sky) being God. The light of the sun, being Jesus. The heat of the sun, which you can't see, is the Holy Spirit. You as a Christian cannot pick and choose what you will believe. Read your Bible, Listen to your pastor/missionary and pray. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. God Bless!

I don't get what you are...
But here is a different way of getting at the Trinity.
There is God
There is the Son
There is Holy spirit
The Trinity is actually something that is taught in all mystical traditions, within Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity.
God is the universal.
The son is the Flesh
Holy Spirit is,,, let's call it Love or the awakening force that allow the flesh to arrive to the point of union with God.
When the Flesh has been awakened by the awakening of the Holy spirit, then one is clearing the obscurations in one's life to reach God.
When all 3 are aligned, then you are living a divine or Christic life and you are then One.
In other words: the deeper you dive into your heart, the first thing it does is to awaken a force of Auto-Motivation once this force awakens, the Yearning for the deeper meaning of the universal God is highten. We then naturally become drawn to God and what obstacles may block our vision of God naturally dissolves.
In other words, the Holys spirit actually dives into the pulse inside of us to removes our compulsions that takes us away from union with God.
---
To reach this understanding one must first be FREE and not Sumbitted to any force regardless it's name.
If you truly are an orthodox Christian, then in your tradition you have many many many great Saints and Mystics that have wording to expand on the Trinity.

The belief in the Trinity goes against all of the teachings of Jesus PBUH, as well as the Bible. This is because the Trinity is a man-made doctrine that was drawn up several hundred years after Jesus. In this time period different interpretations of the Bible were causing serious debates among Christians. The various interpretations were, undoubtedly, due to human perversion of the original scriptures, poor preservation, and/or shoddy translations. One of the main things being questioned was the nature of God and Jesus. Was Jesus actually God, the son of God, or just a messenger? The Council of Nicea was formed in an attempt to settle this dispute, and the Nicea Creed (the Trinitarian doctrine) was subsequently hammered out.

1. The Trinity: Think of water. It can be liquid, ice, or steam. But it is all water, and serves three different purposes.
2. Belief in the Trinity: Only God knows your heart to know if you are a Christian. But to answer your question about Western Christians, yes we do believe faith in the Triune God (or Trinity) is the basis for personal Christianity.

I believe a lot of religions kinda gets blurry in translation.
But I must admit I am from a western christian background I'm turning more and more to the gnostic side.
First of all western Christianity has been majorly influenced by the Catholic Church.
Which was founded by a Roman Emperor to bind his Empire.
So it's largely sprinkled with politics.
And that is for most Christians really hard to define.
Basically Christian religion believes Jesus is God in a human form.
To experience what it is to be human.
So God the Father , The Holy Spirit and The Son are a 3 in 1 package.
Because they are 3 but still one and the same.
And you have to admit our Biological self often messes up our Spiritual being.
I think it's something like in Arabic Allah has many names but is still Allah.
But to me all religions are really just slices of the same bread.
And for being a Christian or not, that's really up to you how you like to define your religion and in what box you want to fit.
Do 1 of those religion tests to see what you believe and in what box that places you.

Yes, it is hard to understand by logic but easy to understand by heart, because, it a God thing that goes beyond human comprehension. Here a simple view to try to explain. God is like an egg. You have a shell, yolk and white. They can be three separate parts, but, make only one egg.
In my church there is faith confession consist of:
1.faith to the God, as the Creator
2. faith to the Christ, as the Savior
3. faith to theHoly Ghost, as the Holy Christian church
This three part is called trinity and we, all christians, should believe it and it's enough for us.
Eventhough you dont believe in trinity concept ,as long as you praise Allah, believe in Christ as your Savior, and believe in Holy Spirit exists as Holy christian churches, you are still Christian :)

If you don't believe in Jesus then you are not a Christian, because Christian means; Little Christ, the Disciples were called Christians first in Antioch, Acts11:26 because they act so much like Christ. If you don't believe in Christ as the Savior then you can not follow Him therefore you can not be a Christian
