I am 14 and have recentely decided to become Athiest. I have my reasons. I'm just wondering if that's ok, because everyone is telling me I'm being stupid, and I'm not sure if there's some deeper reason for them saying this. Can anyone tell me?

(i know athiesm is not technically a religion, but I didn't know what other section to put it in)

Congratulations!!!! You have begun to learn to think for yourself!!! Now that you have begun the path AWAY from Christianity you are open to deeper truth as to WHY you should STAY on the right path. I recommend the book "The Hiram Key" by C. Knight and R. Lomas. It will also help you explain to others why you are an Atheist based on historical FACTS, not disappointments, opinions or hurt feelings. People will continue to pressure you back into religion. Stand strong. You have just as much right to your opinions as they have a right to theirs. Just because the word God falls from their mouths they think everything else that comes out of their mouths has to be right. You and I both know that's not the case. You're not crazy or stupid, You simply are far ahead of everyone around you. The path less traveled is always a difficult one. People are afraid of those like yourself who choose to do their own thing. They feel as though you invalidate their beliefs but are too afraid to tell you that. Don't let people try to scare you back into religion. Christianity caused over a thousand years of the Dark Ages. Don't let it destroy you too. It has it's benefits and many great things have been done in it's name but more evil has been done for sure. NO ONE needs religion to lead a decent moral and righteous life. Just be the best, most moral, consistant and integreous person you can be. Let your life be an example of what can be accomplished without religion.

It is very okay. I am an atheist, a strong atheist. There is no deeper reason for them saying that. You are probbably talking about christians telling you that you are stupid. A true christian never riddicules anothers religion and/or spritual choices or lack there of. They would try to show you their position then let you decide. I have chosen atheism and have never looked back. I am happier and have a much better life. Ironic right, to have a better life without God, but I do. If you ever need help with the atheism just email me at tisbedashit@yahoo.com or lordneplusultra@hotmail.com

If you don't believe in god, it's perfectly natural to be an atheist. In any case, you should not shape your worldview based on what your friends think of you.

I'm not quite an atheist, in that I believe in something that I don't think I'll be able to fully comprehend or define as a mortal on earth. But I certainly do not believe in the sacred texts of ancient religions such as the Bible, the Quran, or theTorah. Having something of a similar origin, all appear from an era where we've already relegated other religions of the time to myth, as things obviously untrue. The only reason that isn't done with Christianity, Judaism, or Islam is that they are living mythologies with millions of adherents. But to me, they are mythologies just the same.

But make up your own mind. There's good to be found in those texts if you look for it, and I don't recommend ignoring them without knowing anything about them. They are texts that helped shaped modern society and affected millions of lives, true or not.

Ask questions, look into things, and figure it out for yourself... that appears to be just what you're doing, and at 14 that's quite amazing and commendable. I only recommend that you don't close yourself off by nailing yourself into any given term, like "atheist", "agnostic", "Christian", "Muslim", or anything else, theist or not. If you simply want to call yourself an atheist because you don't believe in a god, then absolutely, it's perfectly fine. :)

I have no opinion to your faith other than my own when I look at creation and see life abundance on earth then the heavens and how the universe, our Sun and Earth being perfectly placed so - and I ask myself could all this happen with no designer? Seems too perplexing and to me I feel there had to be an intelligence behind this else there would be a lot of chaos yes this universe is so orderly.
It would take a much bigger leap of faith for me to believe there is no God. I go by the evidence of creation and also the beauty and the artistry of the beautiful things that we humans have the gift to appreciate. To me there is an intelligent creator it is the assured conclusion with the evidence I see."

A relevant verse to this discussion.

Romans 1:20
"For his [God's] invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable.

People will say to you that if you have no faith you will be tortured in hell but 1 John 4:8 describes God is love. Jesus Christ teaches in Matthew chapter 43 the love mankind should have for each other.
Would God really torture a soul forever in a hell of fire and yet at the same time God commands us that we show love to even those hating us?
No, you will not die in torment because God cannot force you to love him with fear of torture - you love God because you want to.
Problem with much of the faiths of christianity is their false teachings have turned crowds of people away from the truth of God and his purposes they lose faith in God or never search for it. A lot of church leaders know what they preach is not truely scriptural but they neitherless they will continue preaching falshoods. Jesus has strong words against such teachers in Matthew 23:13

Some people who will support secular ideas will cheer you but they too themselves may not truely understand what they are against. Satan wants to turn as many away as possible from the truth of God.

2 Corinthians 4:4
"among whom the god [Satan] of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through."

well lets see your only 14 and you should think of this first....if your mom or dad said they had cancer or some terminal illness with only a week left to live do you think you would want to pray for them.if ur whole life u lived as an athiest and then wanted to pray for them that would be kinda messed up huh.anyways just talk to your parents and tell them how you feel.they should be able to help you.i have witnessd first hand the wonders of god like a girl speaking in a tone only a man can make with much bass in her voice she was only like 16or17 and after she was prayed for she was cryn and stuff and i guess the demon inside of her was gone.just think long and hard before you choose that path.good luck

Life is hard, and sometimes it is difficult to believe in a Creator who would let us suffer so much. Believing that there is no God is not only ok, it's perfectly normal for someone your age to make this transition. I beg you, though, keep your mind open. With all the wonder and beauty around us, you might discover a Creator you can believe in. Either way, good luck!

It's ok by me. Just because you decide that you, personally, have no belief in the Divine doesnt mean that religion is all crap. I would suggest studying what many different religions are about just so you understand that people arent stupid for being religious, or atheist either.

Sure it is! If you don't believe there is a God, then you obviously don't follow any of the commonplace religions, right? You're not stupid, you're you. A friend of mine is agnostic. That's not usual, is it now? no! But she's one of my best friends. So is another of my friends, who unfortunately could be a biblebeater, she's so passionate about being Christian. So no, you're not stupid, you're fine! And plus, if you ever change your mind or find that your beliefs change over the years (they may or may not), you can always switch again! Good luck!

It is not OK when you can't even spell the word, which means pretty much you can't understand it. And you can't "become" an atheist. You either are or you are not. Do you believe there is a god or not? That's not soemthing you decide depending on whether it's cool or not. It has to do with what you believe in.

I think that you should do some more research on christianity. first off there is a lot of evidence proving that the old testament is true. also, go and talk to some christian people and ask them about their prayers that were answered, you might be suprised. dont be afraid to talk to a minister either, they arent put on this earth to make converts they're put here to make disciples.
