Yes! My daughter walks out of the door, properly dressed. Skirt a decent length, tie properly done up. Around the corner, down coems the tie and up goes the skirt. When I ask why she tells me that the pressure on the kids is such that they're considered "uncool" to wear their uniform as it should be. Trousers would actually free the girls from this pressure. Also, never ever buy cheap skirts from supermarkets. They're skimpy and make a statement.

School is for education and definitely not a fashion show. Uniforms make everyone the same, dress wise, which has its merits.

Girls with low cut tops and pelmet skirts would definitely distract the boys. Jewellery can be a hazard in some school activities.

To force everyone to wear trousers is infringing upon the rights of girls to wear dresses and skirts.

Some Scottish private schools insist on boys wearing a kilt!

Uniforms yes, but not identical for both sexes.

When you mean everyone do you mean biys & girls? I guess the problem is that as summer come around some girls start to wear some pretty short skirts (but strangely will not wear shorts for PE) and that can cause some problems. Making everyone wear trousers solves that problem.
I think lads should have to wear trousers but girls should be able to wear skirts. May be more schools should have a completely seperate summer school uniform?
Then I also would like as a grown-up to be able to wear shorts to work but by all acocunts that's a no-no!

No, you should have a choice. You don't want to wear trousers in the summer, but then sometime tights and a skirt are warmer than school trousers, our school trousers were rubbish material and made you look frumpy. There can be some health issues too - rashes etc associated with trousers.

i don't think that it's right to let the girls wear skirts when non of the boys would be allowed to wear one (should they wish to.) lol.

now here's my real answer. people may say that school girls wearing skirts might encourage paedophilia, but it ain't going to make any difference because when those girls are out of school there going to wear what they like anyway. and if it's so bad of a thing that older men would be looking at school girls with there school uniforms on then why did the U.K. this year enter into the Euro-vision Song Contest a song that had girls in school uniforms dancing around provocatively.

its as if I'm being told on one hand " don't because its a bad thing " and then on the other " here have a look anyway "

The uniform is supposed to be an equalizer so that everybody "looks" the same regardless of the social status. Also, by wearing a uniform you save a lot of money on clothes or save your clothes for better occasions other than school.

Japan is a great example of school uniforms and positive effects. Trousers for all, has never been tried to my knowledge. But anything which allows students to focus on their studies more than their fashion is good policy. Children should be allowed freedoms but in reason. they have their adulthood to be particular on clothing styles. School should be an institution of learning not a fashion runway.

The local middle school where I live recently introduced this rule, it is only running into problems now that summer is here and the girls want to wear skirts.

It stops the problem of girls "pushing the envelope" with regards to skirt length.

One problem with this rule could be in instances when religious dress clashes with the uniform rules.

i think you should be able to have to the choice between skirt or trousers. in my school the uniform was GREEN. green skirt for the girls black trousers for the boys. but if a girl wanted to wear trousers they had to wear green not black!! we all hated this rule, it is not fair to discriminate against girls if they choose to wear trousers or skirt, if the boys could wear black trousers surley the girl should have been able to aswell??

everyone should wear uniforms at school. less pressure on what to wear tomorrow and stuff. you kids should be concerned on school work not on what you're going to wear tomorrow and having the latest cool clothes. :P WATever. If you don't like uniforms go to a school that doesn't enforce that. :P
