Damn good question>>>>Its like one can preach but can hardly practice the same thing.da Vinci Code had an interesting plot and it helpedhim rake the moolaah. When people write fiction, they know that its fiction but they still write it anyway for the purpose of audience entertainment and also for giving vent to their own creativity.
However,Its very possible that Dan Brown believed in what he wrote and then changed his statement and stand post controversy when the Vatican actually became involved.

So I guess you think that the author of Harry Potter really believes that there are kids riding around on brooms and dragons trying to eat them... and evil sorcerers trying to shut down a school for budding wizards?
Dan Brown wrote a fascinating story. Like many VERY good stories it is a blend of fact and fiction. Like a very good publicist, he doesn't tell which is which.
Anybody who cares to actually learn something can separate fact from fiction. Research takes time, but pays off in the end.
Anybody who believes the Da Vinci Code was a documentary is an idiot.

Since when do people only write non-fiction? He wrote it for the same reason anyone writes a fictional story, to tell a story and make money.

It's a fictional work. Stephen King doesn't believe in the stuff he writes, but he writes it anyway. Don't be so serious.

Well, some people love t express their ideas but are afraid of consequences. He might have been afraid of criticism as many writers and thinkers are. So one expresses his or her ideas as merely theory to shield himself from liability. In short he might just have been bored or he might have been scared of criticism

why did any writer in history ever wrote any book. it doesn't need to be true to be interesting. why did Markes wrote, or Ludlum, or Hesse. all of them were writing fiction, just because it's not true doesn't mean it shouldn't be written

it's fiction! he probably wrote it because it was an interesting theory and a good basis for a mystery. whether he actually believed it is irrelevant!
