Feather, your answer got me falling off my chair laughing, thanks (j/k)

On the back of the picture tube you have a thing called an yoke - Its on the neck, not the back

there are magnetic disks on this yoke - A yoke is a coil, wrapped around the neck of the CRT.

and a circuit wire that runs from the yoke to the tube, - the signals sent to the yoke are totally separate from the signals sent to the CRT.

The tube is then filled with a gas type stuff that regulates the colors. - Sorry, it's just a vacuum inside the tube.

The magnetic on the yoke are also responsible for the color distribution. - The magnetic field of the yoke is for controlling the deflection. Without deflection, when you turn on the CRT, it will just shoot a beam at the center.

You maybe able to find a repair man and have him readjust these disks. - If he could find those "discs" , then maybe you're right on this one.

very likely. If you are having a line run across your screen it could be that the yoke will need to be replaced. All depending on where you are the price may run between 10 and 130 bucks. So you may want at looking for another TV is this does not improve or go away in a few days.

Way to go Jimbob, Feather is a comic. Sounds like you need your picture tube degaussed and all magnets (speakers, etc) move away from the TV. There is an automatic degausser inside your set that is supposed to active on every cold start, if its working this should remove any magnetism left on the shadow mask (located just inside of the front of the picture tube screen). I have seen times where you may need a tech to bring out his degausser (especially if its a Sony, then it's a different type degausser). There is also the fact the the internal degausser is broken and again a technician can usually fix that in your home. Take the bill out of the kids allowance.

Yes, if your speaker is not magnetically shielded then keep it as far as 2 feet from the TV screen. However if the TV has been affected already, bring it to the repair center, they will do something to repair it. Its cheap, it won't cost you more than $10.
