Cut down on your food intake as well. Eat lots of smaller meals instead of three main ones; this will boost your rate of metabolism. That is the rate, or speed, that your body uses calories. A high protein menu is important, foods like nuts, meat, fish. Stay away from breads, pasta, muffins, donuts; these are loaded with carbohydrates that produce lots of calories.

ALWAYS CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR before making any major change to your eating habits. I know someone who worked very hard, 44 yrs old, physically quite fit and went on the Atkins diet. She had a major stroke down the left side of her body. She had to learn to walk and talk all over again. I don't think she talked to her doctor before going on the diet. She had spinal meningitis when she was a child; I think that might have had something to do with it. A general physical exam is a good idea beforehand.

Good luck!

The sit-ups don't take away fat, they exercise the muscles underneath. But that is the first step. If you really want a 6-pack, you need to lose body fat by dieting so that the muscles show. It's a lot of effort, though, for something that's not really very important...

You do crunches (not sit-ups) every day, build up the number, until you get to 100, and keep doing those every day.

BUT--they won't give you the six pack without losing weight too. If you are chubby in the midsection, you need to lose that with good old fashioned excersise. Otherwise those crunches won't show through, and they won't burn the fat either...all they do is build muscle tone. Work out for 5 years, then email me and let me know how it worked out!

sit-ups will tone the muscle but not remove the fat. Cardio, and weight training of your big muscle groups will do that. Also eating a diet high in lean protein, lot's of veggies and fruit. Good fats like olive and avocado. You may need to follow a good food regimin to get the results. See a trainer.

Sit-ups work a rather small group of muscles. Start doing excercises which work the larger muscle groups: legs, back, shoulder girdle.

Your body doesnt target any specific area to burn fat from, so sit ups are not going to burn the fat around your middle any faster than, say, pull ups would.

It's going to take more than a week to show results. It's a combination of exercise and diet, and a LOT of situps. Your best choice would be to do crunches instead of situps. Around 200 a day should show you some results in a couple of weeks.

Sit-ups will not get rid of belly fat, they strengthen the ab muscles. What you need to do is incorporate cardio work into your work-out before you do sit ups. This will help reduce the fat.

The first thing is to loose weight, you have muscles in your abs you just can't see them because of the fat, you need to get rid of the fat around the abs and sit ups is not going to do it. The only thing sit ups is going to do is make you abs stronger.
think of the fat as a layer that prevents you from seeing your abs, REMOVE THAT LAYER. lots of water, cardio and fat burning exercises.

A week is not going to show anything excep soreness if your doing it right. The goog ol fashion way is the only way for the stomich. Sit ups and/or crunches.

Sit-ups alone are not the answer. they are ok, as are crunches. Also, jogging is a good exercise for almost every muscle group.
