recycling has been going on as long as man has had tools and containers, Its only in the past few generations that we have been throwing things away after just one use.

It might be the Germans, because they've been recycling fanatics as far as I can remember...I grew up there.

It came from a desire to turn new trash back into old new stuff. Some sadist thought of it.
