It all depends on what kind of lifestyle you have and what you want out of your dog. For instance if you are very active and want a dog that has high energy get a jack russell terrier (although they like to dig). If you like outdoors and want a bigger dog a golden retriever is a great family dog. Really you need to figure out what you want out of your dog and what you are willing to give to find the "perfect dog" for you; otherwise you will end up unhappy and your dog will be at the pound!

Depends on what you want the dog for and if there are children. If you want a dog for protection definately a german shepard. If you want a dog for companionship, definately a golden retriever or a lab (chocolate or black are best). In all my years of breeding and training I've never had a dog I didn't like. Ok maybe one. If you are wanting a lap dog, well hmmm.... definately not a llapso apso or a shitzu. Pomeranians or Pekinese are good for this. You really need to consider also the size of your place that the animal will be living at, and the amount of maintanence and time you are able or willing to put into this dog. The longer/thicker the coat, the more shedding, brushing and bathing you will be doing. Try the pound first though. There are lots of loving babies there waiting for a good home!

What are your expectations of a dog?
What do you want it to do/ not do?

Research breeds on the American Kennel Club site, (link below).

Write a job description for the dog.

Begin a breeder search using the National Breed Clubs/ Parent Clubs on the AKC site and phone breeders a. Tell them you are interested in their breed and ask if the breed fits your expectations / job list.

If it fits, learn about the breed and later - get a dog.

If it does not fit your criteria for a dog to live with you, ask the breeders what breed they recommend for you and begin the process again.

Repeat until your expectations / job list match with a breed.

Take your dog to training classes; dogs need to work for a living to be happiest and the two of you will become a "pack" with you as the leader.

This will be your best match with a dog for both of you to be happy - and - most likely cause you to be a proud and responsible dog owner.

i think which breed of dogs depends really on the lifestyle u have. If you r an active person u shud probably go for lab, or even a jack russell. If more of an indoor person but dont mind short walk, you might wanna consider maltese or shih tzu....it all narrow down to the kinda lifestyle u lead

Are you looking for a big breed or a small breed? Do you have small children in the house? We really need more information before we can recommend a breed. Do you live in an apartment or do you have a nice big yard or a park nearby where you could run a big dog? Big breeds, labs are great. For smaller breeds, Yorkies, Min Pins (I have one), Dachshunds (I also have one), and most terriers are pretty friendly, low maintenance dogs. You should research breeds and see what fits you best.

This all depends on your life style.
If you are a very active person then get an active dog if not then get a basset hound.

Think about adopting one from the pound. There are alot of full blooded breeds there and they need a good home. You will save money by doing it this way rather than buying from a breeder.

My husband and I are animal lovers no matter what kind but we perfer little dogs because you can hold them close for more effective huggins, there inexpensive to feed medical problems are a little less costly then a big dog would be and there more compact, easy to tote around. As for breed pugs are really cute in there own way but the chihuahuas are real smart they can be trained real easy, but get a pure breed less yapping

Don't buy-ADOPT! There are many "full bred" dogs at the pound who need a good home! Who cares if they do not have papers. I adopted my dog and he already knew some tricks! Also, the best dogs are mixed breeds often times! Give a doggie a good home!

If you are going to buy a dog, why not do it at the pound/shelter. There are many dogs there that are suitable for adoption. Don't get one on the first day go back several days get to know the animal. You might find the "perfect" dog there.

do you want a big dog or a small dog?

if you want big---great danes are some of the sweetest dogs out there!
labs are USUALLY very smart and a good companion.(they can some times be too hyper, depends on breeding)
and my personal fave.---labradoodles. said to be one of the smartest and best dogs out there right now!

small dogs- I HIGHLY recommend Lhasa apso's. if you get one, go male. males will fall in love with their owner and be attached at the hip. a great dog if you are looking for a loving lap dog!
