Take him to a comic store, or get a magazine about something he likes, skateboarding, xbox, whatever, that might help. Patience. Find out what's really going on with him, and consistency with his discipline is the key. Is he getting that from mom or dad?

Unplug the TV and only allow him to watch it for a set amount of time. When you give him a punishment-STICK TO IT! YOU are the parent and you are doing him a disservice if you let HIM boss you around! Have rules and consequences. Tell him that you love him and are only making him be a good person because you care. I beleive in spankings, but these days not many people do, so it is up to you. The main thing I can stress is CONSISTENCY and sticking with your punishments. Don't ASK him, "Will you do this?" or "Do you want to ..." TELL him," It iss time to do this. I know you do not want to but you have no choice!"

Edited b/c I did not read the question closely. I thought you were his parent. Anyway, I guess it is up to your mom and dad and not you.

Pick one time that would be family time...fun time where gets to pick something that he like to do other that T.V. that you can do as a family. And when hestarts having fun gradually work your way up and put a little bit of what you want in it. And about the reading start of with comic books or stuff like that it will help build his intrest in other thing. You have to have guidlines its not going to kill him for a little punishment. The key to success in family is Love and guidlines. Good Luck

Stop saying that, if he really loves you, he would notice that you aren't telling him to read anymore. Maybe then he would come up to you and ask you why aren't you telling him to read? He'll feel for it and hope he starts reading.
Good Luck!
