it's because you print of white paper and not black paper. if you remember, black is the lack of any color RGB(0,0,0), while white is the equal and complete mix of all colors RGB(1,1,1) (where gray would be RGB(0.5,0.5,0.5)). this is impossible to acheieve on white medium, because you couldn't ever obtain black (sprayin' no color at all would leave the sheet white, and spraying all colors in mixed amounts would get you white again).

Think about a page that is 85% black text and 15% color illustration. It doesn't make much sense to make every little black letter by mixing high concentrations of all three colors every time. CMYK (cyan-magenta-yellow-black) is more efficient.

What exiting inacurate answers you are receiving my dear....
Don"t let anyone fool you....
The whole colorama is actually based on the 3 primary colors:
they are: yellow, red and bleu.... that is ALL for ALL colours...
Green is simply the mixture of yellow and bleu and is not a primary color...
The terms used in printers is ONLY to precively discribe the TONE of red , and the TONE(shade) of bleu...which suit the best standard in the printing world...
Black is simply NOT a color nor is white... they are simply considered absence of light(black) and total light(white).
This is what is defined in our present earthly world...
Simpy remember that ALL existing colours are made of only 3 basic colors: yellow, red and bleu...
Good luck...

RGB inks are more expencive.. CMY are light tones,, a much thinner ink, and all three cost as much to produce as one of RGB,, and black is so generic it doesn't cost a thing.. end the end.. you'd be mixing more ink w/ RGB to get the colors u want which would cost more.

Because you can get more color combinations using CMYB, than you can with RGB.
