Conservative Christian Republicans are usually people who use their brains to think. Scientologists lack in the thinking department. Republicans sometimes find themselves conflicting with persons who are incapable of forming rational thought.
If you enjoy his writings, then read them. Benefit from whatever you can in life. You SHOULD read tons of books on tons of subjects. But please please please dont let them change who you are. Stay a Christian Conservative. Ok?

No, they probably wouldn't be supportive.
Noone can complain with you studying Scientology, as you won't be fired for your religious beliefs but, for your own benefit, look at all sides before you make a decision. I'm glad that you've found some of Hubbard's words helpful, but there are a lot of strong words said against Scientology, and some of them have merit. Looking into these would allow you to make a better informed decision about Scientology. Could I recommend starting with a (1991?) Times article on Scientology? I forget the title, but you're sure to find it if you look.

Do not be concerned with what you study in relation to your job. They can’t tell you, nor fire you over what you read, study and believe. However, we all know in the real world people can stop you from advancing and also turning others in your office against you, especially in Politics. This can cause much stress and grief. The easy solution is don’t tell them, and do your study anyway – how can they find out?
However now that I have said that, I also feel compelled to warn you about the dangers of Scientology. I have extensive knowledge of the Church of Scientology, and have found it to be a vicious money orientated organisation bent on making more money, and gaining new adherents – to make more money.
Don't take my word for it though, do the research for yourself.
I would begin research at:http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/scientology , & here http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/xenu
Then follow on to the internets main critical site: http://www.clambake.org
From there is a wealth of information including reports by Governments, Law Courts, Ex-scientologists, Scientific Reviews, Published Books, and much much more.
Here are the court files:
http://www.clambake.org/archive/CourtFiles/
Here is the UK Govt. Investigation, the Foster Report:
http://www.xenu.net/archive/audit/foster01.html
Here are whole books written mainly by ex-members that I urge you to read, the authors have posted them for anyone to read:
http://www.clambake.org/archive/books/
If you prefer videos you can see much actual footage of scientolgists behaviour here: http://www.xenutv.com
Hubbard taught that religion is actually an implant you received trillions of years ago from the intergalactic space lord Xenu – this is true see the wikipedia link. So despite what they may have told you it is not compatible with your religion.
If after seeing these sites and having an in-depth read of the articles found on them, if you still want to learn and study scientology then please, please do so in the FreeZone. It will be much cheaper and it doesn’t involve lots of money or signing billion year contracts.
I just want you to have all the available information before you make this choice to study scientology. Please follow the links for your own benefit.

No - and they won't understand if they're as conservative as you say, so be careful about saying anything.
Life is also about your personal convictions - so weigh what scientology can/will bring you. when you get into any religion - study the deeper books or procedures - see where it goes - and make smart decisions based on that. every religion seems happy-happy-joy-joy on the surface - the most important thing is that it is your life, and follow your head (study) as well as your heart. maybe restudy some of your Christian books as well and compare what find. Good luck - very tough question.

It depends on how conservative your particular Republican group happens to be. Not all Republicans connect to religious conservatism. There are many politically conservative ideologies. I tend to be more middle of the road. While I like a certain level of morality, I don't want religion dictating politics.
You can still be a Republican, but you may no longer fit in with that particular group, if they're really religious fundamentalists.

Did you know that L Ron Hubbard started that religion as a bet? Someone bet him he couldn't write a book about a new religion that people would take seriously. He was much better at sci-fi before he started getting a bit loose in the brains department.Half the books perported to be by him were actually written by his wife and partner after he died.
