My boyfriend is a very sweet person, as long as we're at home. But when we're on a date he's loud and obnoxious -- and sometimes even offensive. I've tried talking to him but nothing I do seems to get my point across. I just want to be able to go someplace with him without worrying about his rude behavior. How can I get him to see that "acting out" isn't going to get any positive attention from me, short of breaking up with him?

you don't have to break up with him, just refuse to go anywhere with him until he straightens up.
he's going to feel odd going everywhere by himself.
I think he'll get the message.

I like the refuse to go anywhere with him suggestion. Also, you could try showing him how he acts. Either video tape him when you are out, or record him speaking. Then play it back for him. He would probably be shocked. You could also show him how he acts. One time, go to dinner and be extremely rude to the help and mimic him. You can let the waiter know before hand what you are up to, so he/she doesn't take offense. You might even get them to go along with it. Embarrass him for a change. Chances are....he won't like it. :)
