In California, people aren't allowed to smoke in restaurants, most public buildings, movie theaters and pretty much everywhere now .. I was curious if Apartment complexes across the State are banning people from smoking too? There are people who smoke cigarrettes out in their balconies and the smell travels up towards where I live. It's very disgusting and am planning on having kids in near future. I'm just worried about second hand smoke and what it can do to harm my future children and myself. Does anybody know?

I agree with kittie_nash. Why should we the non-smokers have to suffer by moving out to the country side or even out of State to avoid those who do smoke. Nightly News on NBC with Brian Williams just came on and have discussed about the dangers in second hand smoking where infants have died from SIDS, a healthy non-smoker like us getting cancer with other health issues regarding second hand smoking. Sure, people have the right to smoke too, but at the same time you smokers have to understand the fact that you are harming, putting risks and danger to the non-smoking community as well. Obviously, I'm not the selffish person around here thinking everything about myself. I'm more worried and concerned about our non-smoking community as well as my close family and friends. So don't go accusing us of thinking about oursevles when we're not.

Also, people who live in the ground and 2nd floor of their Apt should think about their surrounding neighbors a bit more too!! If you want to smoke and harm yourselves - why not smoke inside of your Apt. Why take an extra step to smoke outside of your Apt. I mean, I'm sure you smokers have smoked in your vehicles while driving to work, running errands, vacation - etc. I mean, what would be the difference in smoking in your cars than smoking inside your Apt. Why go outside and cause the non-smoking community with cancer, SIDS to your neighbors infants and young children when you can simply smoke indoors of your Apt. I mean, home owners who are smokers as well have smoked indoors and never caused the non-smokers any problems. Lastly, if you smokers have problems with tenants living above you - why didn't you request to live on the 3rd floor instead of accepting ground or 2nd floor? Doesn't make sense at all.
