Like so many other conditons, there are ample suggestions for the treatment of the symptoms but, very seldom is there a suggestion to go to the cause and treat at that level.
When one examines what is taking place, what they find is a very busy thought process in action. Recognizing that factor will at least give one a starting point. From there it is a matter of determining what is the best method to remedy this condition.
One of the suggestions previously mentioned was; count sheep.. but, in order for that to work satisfactorily, one must watch those sheep jumping over a fence.. You won't ever get to 100 in your count. Also, your mind can't do two things at the same time. So, by slowing down the mind, you eventually allow the intellectual level to subside, you create a situation which is conducive to sleep.
The main objective is to have the mind get away from the problems of the day or, the stresses which are mainly self induced.
Should you find yourself unable to accomplish this, acknowledge that you have no control over what you allow your mind to do. This problem can and is carried over into your daily life and creates many struggles that could be avoided.

A bedtime ritual helps, I drink a little glass of chocolate milk before bedtime.
Relaxation techniques may help. Picture your body molded of glass. Everything that has happened today is dirt on the inside of your glass body. Picture your body filling with warm, soapy water. All today's stuff is washed away when you drain the water.
Listen to music. I personaly listen to Led Zepellin, but I'm probably older than you. Pick what you like.
And if all that doesn't work, get up and do something. Staying in bed when you can't sleep makes the problem worse by causing additional stress.
If you STILL have a problem, contact your doctor and see about a sleep study. They'll hook you up to a bunch of wires and monitors, then expect you to sleep. There are lots of sleep disorders, a few are serious, but all are treatable. good luck!

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

Tylonal sleepy time. Best thing in the world, one puts you to sleep like a baby, two will knock you out cold and feel tired in the am, I only recomend one. A home remedy is an onion. Onion is a natral seditive you can eat raw or cooked or you can boil it and drink the broth. It works!

if any human dont sleep for like 2 days then brain forgets his sleep cycle and you have to stay in bed for hours before finally brain recalls his normal sleep cycle
secondly try to follow these
1,make a sleeep ritual like, washing you face and feet, brushing yr teeth......bcaz when u will be doing that brain will know that soon i have to sleep and it prepares him in advance for sleep
2,dont go to sleep i mean to bed when u dont need sleep.bcaz u will stay awake in bed and then you will acquire a behaviour of not able to sleep when u get to the bed.........go to bed only when u need sleep........this will make you brain learn that when on bed i have to sleep
3.avoid sleep pills becaz after couple of weeks they caz insomnia rather than aiding in sleep
4.make a particular time of retiring to bed
5,try to keep your room tempreature towrds the cooler side......cooler temperature r better to get a sleep
6,avoid bright lights hoursbefore u have to sleep...........star light cause your pineal glandto secrete melatonin,a hormone that helps you to sleep........thats why big cities residents have sleep problems bcaz of so many lights around.
7,melatonin tablets available in market are use less because when u take them they will come out straight from your butts.......melatonin has very very poor absorption through your stomach...dont waste yor money on them.
