My question is, dont you guys think alcohol should be banned like so many islamic countries? How many life has been lost over the decades for alcohol alone and how many family broke down because of alcohol? How many fights and incidents we see everyday in newspapers due to alcohol, still nothing is happening.I mean there's already so many problems in life which we cant avoid but there are problems which we can stop. And problems related to alcohol can only be stopped by banning them like the muslim countries.I believe muslims are more smarter than us because they prohibited alcohol and gambling which are no doubt two diseases in the society which can be totally stopped. Now,u can say not everybody is effected by these 2 problems, not everyone gets drunk and gets their or others life screwed up,but what about the person who is drinking next to you,he might screw up your life. And you can argue that not everyone becomes poor by gambling but what about the person next to you,he might rob u 1 day

Mr. Evil.atheist, i already mentioned that therez a lot of problems (like car accidents) in everyday life..which cant be avoided but some problems can be avoided, like alcohol and gambling.
And for the rest of you alcohol lovers, drink on..nobody is asking you to stop,go ahead screw your life...(oneday eventually you will, maybe not today)
To the canadian, I am a canadian myself and how much do you really cover the news about what's going on in canada?Have you been to Winnipeg, manitoba or regina, saskachewen?Well,i suggest you go there and see how the nice alcohol has made everybodyz live over there.Especially the native americans both in the city and in their reserves. How many crimes are being commited everyday for drinking alcohol even as we speak.

Well, stupidity is something that happens once you take alcohol too much and therez a possibility of addiction for alcohol.Suppose you had a bad day oneday and started drinking more than what you usually drink, then you get drunk and you think of driving to the beer vendor to get some more,at this time your mind isnt working right because you are drunk, and so you drive and ran someone over one your way to the vendor.Who's responsible for that?I wont blame you, because you werent in the right state of mind because you were drunk.

OOOooo!look at 'jtuckerndfw''s answer,so angry. First of all,i'm very aware that alcohol can be available in Saudi Arabia and other muslim countries. But only filthy rich people like you would pay a fortune for just a sip of whisky. And this doesnt actually effect the society. You should thank god for getting out of Saudi Arabia without being caught buying alcohol. You probably even dont know what kind of punishment you would have got and you say,i know not what i speak of?For your kind info,i am not butting into anybodyz bzness here, just asking their opinion.Look what a crazy maniac alcohol makes you....i bet you love alcohol more than yourself that you couldnt tolerate anything against it.Sheer stupidity.

About increasing organized crimes and violence due to ban of alcohol, i think if US and other first world countries can deal with big crazy countries and their people, like iraq, iran, pakistan i bet they can deal with their own crimes.Or you guyz think they arent capable of dealing with their own problems ?Deal with the crime in your own country first and then go kill others.

Alcohol shouldn't be banned. Stupidity should. It's like saying "Shouldn't all fast food, guns, drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, hate, knives be banned". They all kill, yet not all are illegal. I think people need to be more responsible and stop blaming THINGS for what happens on this earth. It's the people that live in this world and have no respect for others that cause all the heartache. I think drunk drivers/impaired drivers who cause accidents and injuries should have mandatory jail time and those who kill someone while drunk/impaired whether with a car or violent force should get the death penalty. Maybe then people would use their brains a little bit more.

If you really believe that alcohol is the reason these people have made bad choices, then yes. I personally prefer to deal with the consequences of my actions, which is why I do not drink obsessively.
For people who are incapable of making positive choices, sure, ban alcohol so that they cannot use it to harm themselves and others. But consider this; if you take away alcohol, does that suddenly turn these same people into better people? No, it does not. They will make other bad choices regardless of being drunk, or not.
You can take a child's toys away, but that doesn't mean they'll stay out of trouble.

I drink a glass of wine about once a week, sometimes a beer, but I don't drink excessively. The problem is not the alcohol, but rather the lack of moderation and restraint. There are people out there who have diseases that cause them to continually wash their hands until they bleed, but soap is not banned. I'm not for drinking and driving, but banning a substance only makes its use more interesting and desirable. Marijuana is banned and yet it's very popular. Good luck on stopping the DUI's, though!

Ok maybe taking alcohol away totally would be a little harsh. How about making the law a little more serious. Let's not only give dui to drank drivers but take their driver's license for 5 years or more. There is so many accidents becasue of drank driving and so many unfappy wifes, husbands becasue if drinking problems in their families.

Ban alcohol? Have you ever heard of what happens
in the USA when you take away our beer?
All Hell breaks loose! If a person wants to have a beer or 24
it's nobody's business but our own! There is nothing wrong with
drinking a few beers after work! Get a life and go preach some
where else!

What about all of the people who die in car accidents each year? By your anti-freedom argument, we should ban cars as well.
Edit: Why is it that certain problems can be avoided and others can't? Why are you the one who gets to choose? And who are you to take the rights away from those responsible enough to enjoy alcoholic beverages in moderation? Frankly, I am appalled by your apparent disregard for our freedoms.
Oh, and have you ever been to these Middle-Eastern countries of which you speak? They are plagued by war and crime.
Edit #2: Okay everybody, this guy has officially shown complete ignorance and he doesn't quite seem to grasp the concept of freedom. I am sure he will not cause alcohol to be banned in my country, so I am now officially tuning this moron out. I will not return to this question.

I can see how you would think this is the best answer to the problem America faces with our multitudes of Alcoholics. We had a Prohibition on alcohol once, and it resulted in even more Crime and heartache. Unfortunately, people will resort to drinking weather it is banned or not. Even worst are the people who will resort to drinking at the expense of strangers, and even their own family.

Well...For a country in which alcohol is banned, I find it a little strange that there's so much corruption there.
It's not banned in Canada, and things seem fine to me.
Edit #2: Hey there...I was speaking more in terms of government issues. Not about people who can't handle their alcohol. There IS a difference!!!!!Anyway..If you want to argue your by yourself...It might be a good thing if you don't drink, judging by the way your attitude comes off as.

Banning alcohol accomplishes nothing other than causing organized criminals to begin providing alcohol and making billions while doing so.
I lived in Saudi Arabia and had no problem finding alcohol. Of course, a fifth of whiskey cost several hundred dollars, but it was available.
You know not of what you speak.
If you don't want to drink, don't. But don't butt into other people's business in the name of religion.

your right, but I do not agree with you. It is true, things like this are more cultural. I believe the best thing in this case is to deal with alcohol liek Italy. Allow anyone of any age to drink it. It will lower alcoholism and alcohol related deaths because people will learn how much their body can take, therefor living more healthfully.
