For once this bookworm actually thinks the movie was better than the book. It is a Fiction work that is wildly exciting. I still recommend reading the first 89 chapters of the book before you see the movie, that way you don't know how it is going to turn out, but you have most of the detail.
The book has been completely discredited in almost every claim it makes, but who cares? Fiction is just that. The one thing I do think is important to remember, the Church HAS commited or condoned many thousands of atrocities and killed innocents to squelch different theories and practices that threatened it's power or sensibilities. That being said this Christian thouroughly enjoyed the cinematic value of the film.
GO... have a god time, and pray for your Priest, that he may have more faith in his flock and their ability to process fiction as fiction. All people should question their faiths from time to time as a reality check. Why do I believe this? What is it I believe? All people, even Atheists believe something. Defining what you believe helps you know better who you are. How is that bad?

There are tons of factual points in the book amidst the fictitious. It has been debated that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, of course back then marriage was different. If a man and a woman lay together, they were married. The Catholic church is run by who-men! Did you know that before Catholocism was established that even in Jesus' days there actually WAS Goddess worship? Not meaning a false Goddess idol, but that women were truly special and adored for containing the "chalice" ,the womb? I am by no means condemning the Catholic church, just broadening horizons. I am Christian myself, and all it takes is research to learn what is fact and what is fiction. I also know that the movie "War of the Worlds" was not scrutinized. THAT book was fictitious. How does a novelist's work differ? He didn't say it was a true story. It was an awesome show of imagination.

I've read the book and seen the movie. I'm a devout Christian. I liked the story. It was very good. It has, in a way, strengthened my faith.
My sister works in the Bishop House, there all the priests, including the bishop have read it. It's necessay for Christians to know about such things. Awesome truth behind it. Also, this book is also NOT telling everything. You should know why the gnostics were not chosen by the church. Further research will only make a person more open-minded. Go for it!

One must 1st consider in any question the source. In this case it is a book.A book of fiction.Having seen a documentary by the discovery channel on the book, I can speak with clarity and in truth, in saying, there is almost nothing to which this book and movie was based on.No evidence what-so-ever.Just a few rumors.
Having this knowledge before even considering viewing the movie, gives one a certain amount of wariness. Why would I desire to view something that is so obviously fiction? That is supposed to be about something that was rea?.Especially when it is about a subject that is dear to most people.Religion.Spiritual belief. These are deep and complicated subjects alone, without mixing in a bunch of nonesense.
I believe there may be many reasons a minister or paster may not desire his followers to watch this film.I believe it is clearly evident to anyone that power would be the least of those concerns.
Follow your heart and you will not go wrong.

I do not think Da Vinci Code is factual.Being controversial is the trick of the trade for authors film producers and other creative people. They make money just because there is some controversy . We need not get upset. People with very frail faith only lose it with a single movie.
Catholicism is an English word in the dictionary and means broad mindedness.
Well done.

I am a christian, and I like you don't see a problem with watching / reading the DaVinchi Code. It is a work of fiction. If anything the church as a whole have over reacted to it. As they did to Harry Potter and many other books, movies, music etc etc... If anything by reacting the way that they do they help to publicise the movie. I once heard Billy Joel say that when the church banned his album his sales went thru the roof. The same philosophy applies here...

See... now it's got you thinking, (or rather, doubting), doesn't it? That's why your priest told you not to go see the movie in the first place! Think about other people who have a weaker, more impressionable mind! How many souls can the devil win over through this movie, and others like it that will be coming out soon?
Yes, it's fiction, but some view it differently!

Well, I'm a Christian and my priest doesn't allow that either... They said that the Da Vinci Code was only a fake, made up story about Jesus. Plus, they said Dan Brown (the author) didn't learn about earth's 2000 years ago history. So, because it's FAKE.

That is crazy! Why do the priest and pastors think that their followers are stupid and can't see that it is fiction? I do believe that there are things that the Catholic Church does not what us to know. Things that have been hidden for hundreds of years. Certain things that they chose to leave out of the bible. The Bible was edited by the Popes before it was written. Who knows what they left out for our benifit, but I don't think that any of it has to do with the movie. It is fiction.

DUDE........
The Da Vinci Code is pure junk & rubbish & senseless story.
It is bad to see such movies that insult Jesus who had died for you and everyone on the cross. He took the place of you and me on the cross of Calvary.God is our heveanly Father & watching such movies would be like nicely watching the insults of your Heveanly Father.
Would you like to see your father or mother insulted?
What would you do if someone tomorrow insulting your father or mother on his/her face?
Its the same thing here.
The momentary pleasure that the world provides is temporary.
People may come and go but the Kingdom of Heaven remains eternal.Today if Da Vinci Code is famous, tomorrow people will forget it.Many famous people have insulsted & challanged Jesus and have in turn lost their lives like Merylin Monroe,John Lennon,Architect of Titanic ship etc.
Since you have seen the movie, I would like you to advice others
NOT TO SEE THE MOVIE.
