It is a good mouthwash, the only reason that Listerine and Scope burn is because they have high amounts of alcohol in them (22%!). The alcohol is not the active ingredient either.
Crest Pro Health rinse uses a different active ingredient than Listerine, but is proven to kill bacteria just as well. The only problem I have seen with the Crest rinse is that a few people have developed staining from it. I am not sure why, but it isn't due to the active ingredients. If this happens to develop your dental hygienist can remove these stains. Another good rinse that uses the same active ingredients is the rinse by Breath Rx and I haven't heard of staining from it.
One thing to note, if you are using the Crest or Breath Rx rinse, be sure to rinse your mouth out well after you brush and before you rinse with the product. Ingredients in the toothpaste will interact with ingredients in the rinse and cancel out each other.

Personally, I like Crest Pro-Health Rinse. I am a wuss, and I cannot handle Listerine for 30 seconds without diluting it. I like the Crest Pro-Health Rinse, it doesn't burn and it doesn't dry out my mouth (like Listerine). It lasts for a long time. Crest claims that the active ingredient in the rinse continues to work in the mouth for 12 hours. But because the rinse is relatively new, enough research has not been done on it for it to be approved by the ADA. As of June 5, 2006, it is still not apporved. I haven't heard anything negative about it, so I will continue to use it until I hear otherwise.

Toothpaste contains small amounts of chemicals, that if ingested in larger amounts kills you.

Isn't it a wonder we're all dying faster?
