I used to have a bunny but my mom told my aunt to give it away while my family was on vacation. So after that i bought another bunny but it was VERY stubborn so i chose to give it away. Then i bought 2 birds but since we were moving my mom didn't want the birds to stink up our new house. My mom thinks only little puppies are cute but wouldn't like to have one because of there poop and smell. (i personally think they smell good) So i did a TON of research and found out ways to get rid of icky dog smell and whish puppies make the least poop a day (and thankfully it was the dog i wanted most: a pomeranian! 1-3 litters a day) so i told my mom all of this and gave her a presentation but she thinks i won't be responsible. but to be honest if she gets me the puppy i'll be more responsible than ever. but she dosen't believe me. I'm 12 years old and i'm extremely smart, i always excercise, i'm very nice and responsible. PLEASE HELP I WANT A PUPPY SOOOOOOO BAD!!!

I think you sound very smart and am very impressed with all the research you did to show your mom your side of wanting the puppy. Maybe give your mom some space and don't push the issue too much as that will give her time to think about it on her own. That is usually a helpful way of approaching subjects sometimes with parents. After a week or so, maybe casually bring up the topic and see if she is more responsive in a positive way. Also, make sure she's in a good mood to begin with. Hope this helps and good luck !!!

You are not responsible. You are 12. You have already given away 4 animals that you should have spent the rest of their lives with. This is not responsible. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

Great that you did research to get the dog smell out of things - I hate to break it to you - they don't always work. And, it doesn't fix the problem of having to clean up poop and pee numerous times every day.

You think you would be responsible. Why weren't you responsible with the rabbits? With the birds? She knows you better than you know yourself. What happens if you give up on the dog after a few weeks and she has to give that away, too?

Animals are not disposable as you seem to think they are - if you got a puppy, you would be committed to it for 15 years. What are you going to do when you go away to college? What are you going to do if it gets sick and needs a thousand dollars worth of surgery? What are you going to do if the dog decides to start peeing on your bed? Who is going to clean up after the dog while you are at school? Toy Breeds are notoriously difficult to housetrain - what are you going to do if 6 months down the road the dog is still messing inside the house?

2-5 million dogs & cats are killed every year because they can't find homes. Too many of these come from situations like yours - people who didn't know what was involved got in over their heads.

Poms do come through rescue groups fairly regularly, see if your mom would consider an older dog (meaning not a puppy) that's already been at least partially housetrained. Because of your history, I really think your mom is right, but I also don't know you, so you'll have to live with her decision until you can prove that you are responsible enough to handle such a big task. Honestly addressing the issues I raised here would be a step in the right direction.

Getting a dog needs to be a family decision. If your mom is completely against it, then it really isn't a good idea. Trust me. You don't want an animal in the house that someone else doesn't want around.

I'm writing to reiterate what someone else said about volunteering at a shelter or animal rescue. These places need people to work with the animals; the animals need people just to pay attention to them. You would be providing a valuable service and getting to spend time playing with dogs, probably even Poms! A lot of ppl said you should show your mom how responsible you are; volunteering at a shelter would be one way of accomplishing this that would also give you time to be with more than one dog and learn about their differences in temperament, energy level, all kinds of things to learn about dogs! I hope you'll consider this suggestion as a decent compromise for the time being. You obviously love animals and you seem like a mature 12-year-old, so I'm sure you'll do what's best (which is whatever your mom says). Good luck!

Ask your mom for ways to show her that you can be responsible. Whether it's babysitting or taking care of a hamster, you'll have to find a way to show her that you're capable of caring for another LIVING being.

You might want to consider asking your mom if you can do extra chores around the house to earn money to help pay for the dog's expenses (i.e. the initial cost, shots, food, toys, etc.) That would also show her that you're willing to take more responsibility for the dog.

Also, remember that unlike your bunny, you'll have to deal with it if your puppy is stubborn. Like in Lilo and Stitch, you're going ot be responsible for making him/her into a good global citizen. Make sure that you know what you're getting into, and what it takes to PROPERLY raise a dog. After all, you don't want an unruly dog.

Good luck!

You sound like you would take care of it, but don't want to burst your bubble, but any dog takes a lot of care. You also have to remember they have to have shots, get wormed, rabies shot. They get that when they are at least 12 weeks old, and then they need another one when they are a year old, then every three years. You have to make sure they get a heart worm pill every month from may until november.. Then depending on sex, or I should say if you get them fixed, which costs money, you have to get them a liesence. Not fixed(depending on where you live) runs about
$21.00. Fixed will be about 12.50

I'm not saying your not responsible, but they do cost a bit to take really good care of them. Maybe that is why your mother says wait. Maybe she is the one who is not ready to deal with a dog.

Some people who sell AKC dogs will not sell them to someone with children under twelve. So if you have any other siblings younger then you, don't bring them with you, and make sure your mother doesn't say anything either. Unless you can find one at a rescue, or adoption for dogs. Pom puppies can run any where from $500.00 to $1,000.00. Again unless someone justs wants to get rid of them. And then if you don't register(having papers for your dog, showing blood line) some are willing to sell them for less. But your best bet, is to look at a rescue place.

Keep asking your mother, and also do good things for her, but don't do it just because you want a dog. Like someone else said, drop the matter about the dog for awhile. If you have odd jobs or babysit, save up some money on your own. Or maybe Santa might bring you one for Christmas.

But give it some more thought, and think things through. Give your mom a break on the subject, but keep it in your heart. Be a good girl and maybe you will get your hearts wish. If your mom does say yes and gets you one, let us know. At least I for one would like to know if you got it, no matter if it is down the road a bit. Could be at Christmas. Have a nice night, and good luck

It is good that u have a very good mind to owe a puppy see every parent is not bad first of try to understand that parents sure will look after us the best rather than any body in the whole world, try to explain your inner feeling to your mother in a pleasing way if she doesnt even still agree try to get good marks in your class if possible be the first then u can request or else wait untill ur birthday then u can ask her it as your birthday gift.

Try to save your pocket money and you can own a dog of yours with your own maoney.

A great dog for you and your mom would be a chihuahua. You can get one for $250 if your really looking hard. They wont be the teacup (tiny tiny) ones like Paris Hilton has..but they are still very small dogs. They also dont smell. Even when they get wet they arent smelly dogs. And on top of it you can give them baths easily and if you do it from the time they're little they enjoy baths. They are very loyal to you and your family as well. People tend to think of chihuahuas as barkers too...but it all depends on how you raise your dog. The only time my dogs bark is when someone knocks on the door. They are great dogs! If you have more questions feel free to email me az_cutie_pi@yahoo.com. Good luck in your search of getting a dog :)

I agree with most of these answers.. Have you thought of helping at an animal shelter... those dogs need lots of love and it would really show your mom how responsible you can be and dedicated.. you could even think of some way to do some fundraising to help dogs in the shelter...here is an article about a boy that is doing his share of helping animals..he was also on the Ellen Show.

I don't think you need a puppy if your mom doesn't approve of your other animals. It's a big responsibility, but if you really want one, the best thing to do is wait it out. I didn't get a dog for a very long time after my Rottweiler went to my grandparent's house. But we saw a kennel and we convinced my dad to get our white Schnauzer. It helps if you cry, I will say that.

Show her how grown-up you can be. Whining about how much you want a puppy isn't the best way to do that. Dropping the issue for now and focusing on other things (like keeping your room clean and being respectful) will help your mom see that you're as responsible as you think you are.
