There are a few different types of skin cancer. One looks like a mole, it may change in some form get larger, hurt, change colors. ( not all are cancer) then there is the white callious looking cancer spots that normally form on the ears where someones been exposed to the sun alot, and then there is a type that is looks like a dark mole but flush to the skin. Just because you may find a spot that appears like a cancer spot theres no sure way to know without seeing you healthcare provider and having it tested.

a malignant tumor that grows in the skin cells.
A harmful, malignant growth on the skin, which can have many causes, including repeated severe sunburns or long-term exposure to the sun.
Skin cancer begins when cells that make up the skin grow out of control and take over healthy cells. There are three common types of skin cancer and are named after the type of skin cell. These are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma .
Most skin cancers can be removed surgically by a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist. If the cancer is small, the procedure can be done quickly and easily in an outpatient facility or the physician's office, using local anesthesia.
In medicine (dermatology), there are several different types of cancer referred to under the general label of skin cancer. The most common types are squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma, while the most dangerous is malignant melanoma.

Cancer is a disease in which certain body cells don't function right, divide very fast,
and produce too much tissue that forms a tumor. The skin is the body's largest organ.
It protects us against heat, light, injury, and infection. It regulates body temperature
and stores water, fat, and vitamin D. The two most common kinds of skin cancer are basal
cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The most serious kind of skin cancer is called melanoma.

There are three types that I know of: squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. And I'm sure there are more. The sun is the cause of them all, and constant exposure, especially in this day and age when the ozone layer is being depleted at such a high rate of speed, will lead to one or more of these at some time in a person's life. The one to really worry about is the malignant melanoma--one of my brothers died by having it, and another was saved. If you are fair-skinned, you really need to see a dermatologist every year to make sure you are skin cancer free--it's SO important! PLEASE don't wait, if you suspect something!!
