With Harry Potter, Medium, John Edwards, even Raven, and more are they OK to watch even though God's word tells us to stay away in Deut. 18: 9-13?

My question here isn't posted because of my uncertainty. It's for TRUE "So Called" Christians to really self-examine yourselves to make sure you're REALLY and TRULY following God's commands.
And with the answers that I've been receiving, I can see why some people feel the way they do about Christians. I hated to say that!
Bottom line as Christians: OBEY ALL of God's Commands and Stop trying to make your life exceptional just because the world thinks its OK.

JUST Entainment?
Does God make that exception?.......... Seriously think about that.
MaidServant..... you were correct! Thanks for your answer.
Shepard.... Thanks. That was well put!!
Ms. KylieE..... I Never said, " I hate the Disney Channel." The show "Raven" is about having psychic abilities which is a form of spiritism. With that being said, we should still stay away from because of what God's word says, be that its through the Disney channel, Movies, Books, school, whatever..... We should never accept it any kind of way its brought to our life!! (New in the truth or been a Christian our whole lives, it shouldn't matter.)

Spiritualism (I think that is what you mean) is different from the examples you give. Let me clarify them: Harry Potter teaches nothing as it is fiction, but is based in fact on witchcraft (except for the flying and other "fantastic" notions). Meduim, come in all religions. The just are able to either see, hear, or both with those that have died. John Edwards is a phony no problem there. I don't know about Raven, never watched it.
Now for my answer. As long as you are strong in your belief and are not shaken by it then there is no problem. If it causes you to doubt then you need to do some soul searching. By the way spiritualism is a Christian based occult religion. They believe, pray and practice Christianity and believe that their abilities come from god. Realize that most of the bible was written by prophets whom today would be called psychics and mediums. Fear is fed by ignorance there is no sin in learning to understand something. Once you understand it you can control it in your life. Knowledge is power.
By the way this info came from a fully trained and initiated witch(no I don't worship the devil he is christian and I am not). I hope this helped you even if it came from the otherside of the fence as it were. lol.

Old men will dream dreams and young men will see visions, is also in the bible somewhere. Understand the men who wrote the most popular form of the bible wanted to convert the old pagan traditions to xtian ones. They took all the holidays, traditions, and turned the main gods into an evil deity and said for everyone to close their mind to the innate intuition and that everything they dont understand in the spirit world is evil. This is not true. If you want to be brainwashed then you can choose to be, to fear what is misunderstood, when its all in history, just think for yourself and decide if you do not want to judge or if you want to believe everyone is going to hell. Is this the call of any human? I prefer to believe in freedom of religion, I love HP, Medium (based on true story) and raven is a joke. God gives spiritual gifts it doesnt mean its evil its all in how you use the gift as it is meant to help people not make anyone rich or hurt anyone. Jesus said all the miracles he could do we could also do. Have compassion, love one another, and not judge.

I don't know,
I have some psychic ability and I am Christian,
believe in God and Jesus,
I feel like sometimes such things are a gift from God if they are genuine.
God's prophets were given a gift from God to speak God's word.
I really don't know, but if such gifts are used for the betterment of another human being, i.e. such as finding a missing person, helping solve a murder, etc., then I don't see the harm.

you just answered your own question......
if we live by the Word of God then the Word of God just told you to stay away from it.....so why are you asking ...is it because you are hoping someone will give you permission to go against Gods word and then make it OK?.....just follow the Word of God that you confess as Lord and Savior and you will be all right....remeber we are to live in this world but be seperate from it...and that means we walk to the ways of God not mans ways...
if you tell yourself it is OK it is all in fun that I am doing this then you are deceiving yourself and in rebellion against the God you serve......if God says no then He means No....no ifs ands or buts about it......He never changes He is always the same......some may even tell you that this is a different time and a new day and if God were here now he would understand.....well he wouldn't....he is here ...he never left us...He tells us that he is always with us.....we just need to figure out who we are going to serve and then live it with all that is in us.......

You need to test the spirits, to see whether or not they are from God.
Here's a site that can help you decide on how to "test the spirits" that you find in children's fantasy literature, this one focuses on Harry Potter, with reference to CS Lewis and the Narnia series, too.

Take television shows, books, and movies for what they are: entertainment. That is all they are. Now if you start believing and putting faith in John Edwards, then there might be a problem.

well God doesnt want us to get involed in that world. of course we need to know those worlds are true though. he gave j.k. rowling the ability to write, and truthfully she used it wrong. maybe God wanted her to inform us about the other world of the devils, but not to get kids into casting spells and worshiping the devil. do see what i mean? so ive always wondered if j.k. rowing wouldve toned her stories down a bit, if God might be ok with them. but i think i can answer my own question, he probably not.

The original message of Jesus was a reformation of Judaism; or, essentially, to break away from the rigid dogma of the Church. So, in this light, the original message was more spiritual, more mystical.

If Gods word says to stay away, then do you really need to ask?
You already know what you should do. Follow Gods word.
