I'm earning 20,000/month, 5,000 goes to government taxes, I spend 25,000 for my medications(part of it from sponsors), Do i need to give 10% of 20,000 as tithe to the church?

Baptist's say YES(The more you give, the more will be given back to you) , Catholic says NO (Give according to your heart's desire). How about you?

If your making 20,000 a month and paying 5,000 in taxes. 25,000 goes to med's? your already in the hole before you start.

You my friend are in dire need of an accountant.
I gross 15,000 - 18,000 dollars a month. I pay very very little, if any taxes at all.

Answer:. 10% has nothing to do with money. MAN, has said it's money, because it is a common denominator that most people share. NOW, having said that, I'll say this...
If you have to scratch with a calculator and figure what 10% is....you already missed it anyway. GOD owns every dollar bill ever made. What makes you think, He wants your money? God wants the LOVE of you GIVING.

Hope this helps.

BTW. I don't know what Baptist told you this. Baptists have branched out 10 times. There are 10 different Baptist doctrines. I was on a Baptist Council for 8 years. We did not teach this at all. Nor was the mention of money even included.

Please...read to the end.

This is to give to your local church. If you don't have one, do the best you can with it, perhaps laying some up in store until you find a church. And whatever you do, don't tell anybody you are looking for a church to give money to! They might just come out of the woodwork!

This is the age of grace. 10% is A tithe, but "tithes" were expected way back when and amounted to more like 27%. If you are making $20K a month you would certainly fall into the highest bracket! ;) (....and congratulations to you!)

The guide is set up in First Corinthians, chapter 16, verse 2:
"Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him."

Now, God has prospered you in one way, that you get the $20K/mo. You also have health issues that cause you to need most of that for meds. Figure out what you need to live on, and give a fair amount to your local church. What's fair? That's between you and God. I don't believe that He would want you to suffer to give money to the church, especially if you are one of the people that they will end up supporting!

If you have serious health issues, it would be good for you to have believers as friends who will be there for you. That's the biggest reason that I suggest you choose a church, whether they ever receive a dime or not.

The Bible states that the Lord requires a tithe which actually means a tenth. The Bible also says render unto Ceaser what is Ceaser's and unto the Lord what is the Lord's. The Lord wants our 1st fruits, which is the 1st ten % not the left overs. So if you make 20k per month gross then tou should tithe 2k to the church, but also the Lord wants you to do it with a love for him, not out of an obligation. You'll reap much more from it if your doing it with the right mind set and right spirit, than if you are doing it with a grudge.

Please don't buy into this. Tithing was an age old bureaucratic way of supporting religious heads and other sects of small communities that had no actual product at the end of a fiscal year. what many people don't know is that it was 10 percent of the communities growth not total quantity. The church has "adapted" this concept and used it as a way of supporting there institutionalized way of thinking. Leave your money in your wallet. Jesus did not open a church, nor did he need the money of others. He relied on the good will of man and for many years worked as a carpenter so the religious sects teach. in-fact he spoke just the opposite as far as institutionalized teach was concerned, and was prosecuted to the point of dieing on the cross for his beliefs. Don't let the corruption and bureaucracy of modern day religions hurt your way of life. Regardless of the money you make.

Listen to God and know what the word of GOD says Jesus "to give what is Ceasars". Jesus gave a coin out of the mouth of a fish. He paid his 10% too! Not only tithes but offerings also. A tithe and offering also could have different meanings that God commands which is ur time with God,time helping others and charities! Don't take advice from us,please. That small still voice in ur heart knows what to do. God Bless you!

Yes. Read the book of Malachi. God will bless you when you give your tithes.

When my parents separated, my mother didn't know how she would support us. There are 3 kids in my family. She didn't know whether she should pay tithes or not, but my mother faithfully gave her tithes. My father did not give her money during the time that they were separated, however, we never lacked or went in debt. I think my grandparents helped out a little bit, but my mom was able to pay for most of it. We didn't have to cut down on anything. GOD blessed my mom for being faithful, and not only that, in 5 months, my father came back to be with the family and has stayed with us ever since :).

The greatest sacrifices a person can give is of their time. Selfless service (service without attachment to the rewards) is the greatest sacrifice. Time, not money, serves God much better. Hindus call the act of selfless service "seva". If one cannot give time, then one can give money. Thus, even though I'm a Hindu, I think the Catholic's view is closer to how I feel about this issue. If I have the money to give, I will give money. However, I will always devote time as well and even if I do not have money to give, I can always sacrifice some time to do good for others. I always try to keep two quotes close to me (coincidently from a Hindu and a Catholic) when looking for seva.
"Poverty is the worst form of violence." Mahatma Gandhi
"The worst form of poverty is being no one to anyone, to be uncared for, unloved, unknown." Mother Teresa

The whole "give 10%" idea is from the old covenant, it no longer applies to Christians. Although it's a wise guideline, however, it's not mandatory. I say give as God leads you. It may be little one week and may seem like too much the other week. Remember that it was God who gives you the ability to earn the money in the first place. He knows where it is needed.

Give what you feel is right, its not going to decide if you get into heaven or not. I do believe that the more a person gives of themselves (not just money but everything about you) the more you get back. Give some to the church if you want but if the church dosnt need it give it to someone who does ie charity, personal gift etc. Its amazing how good it feels to give something to someone who needs it. I have never felt like I have made difference as when I give to someone who needs

I prefer a tithe in amount of time
4 hours week to the Lord (I am using the 40 hour work week)
I find this to be more direct and I really don't trust a church to honestly be God's broker
