Everyone is afraid to lose. But think about what being afraid really means. Being afraid is making an agreement with yourself to feel bad, in advance, about something that may not even happen. So if you are afraid, you are wasting your time thinking in advance about losing.

The solution is to change your thinking from "oh God, what happens if I lose?", to "how am I going to win?"

Try thinking about sitting down the day AFTER a tournament, knowing that you won, and thinking about how you practiced until you were able to win. Learn the techniques of success. Don't take the time to fear.

Becuase no one likes to loose -- when we loose, be it a competition or anything else, its a form of rejection and embarressment. What most don't realize is that competition is part of life and we will all loose something one time or another. What's cool though is that simultaneously, we will also be winning or gaining other things. What we don't realize often is that we focus more on the negative (loosing) rather than when we have gain in our lives.

See that's the beauty of martial arts. Everyone is scared of loosing at one point or another, but in martial arts, (granted its a tradtional style of teaching and not some hyped up American version), you're taught that loosing is simply another way of winning. My sensai always told us that a competition isn't about winning or loosing, its about having pride in what you do and be willing to show that off to everyone there. All comes down to confidence and willpower.

Being scared of losing is a normal feeling among athletes. Nobody likes to lose, but it's part of the game. You just have to tell yourself that even if you lose, you will have given 110% percent effort and you should be proud of yourself for doing that. You can also tell yourself when (and if) you end up on the short end of the stick, that you'll do better next time. Having something to motivate you to do well is a powerful thing.

Everyone is scared or nervous to lose. Once you win all the worries will go away and you'll get confidence for other competitions.
