Does how someone is brought up actually effect the way someone turns out in later life?

Yes. Researchers even claim this. 1 of the best facts are broken home and abusive dad/mother. Kids learn and live what they are taught. They're taught dysfunction, then more times than not, they will live it. Research the Crimes and penitentiary data. This would shock you. You breed a dog, you get puppies. This is more true than not.
As to your question: It's not. Rather, Spiritual growth is not only good, it is commanded by God Himself. A person is going to grow. You can grow IN God, or without God. It's all a matter of choice.

People create gods and society creates and implies religions!
This way, the leaders of the society direct the people in certain direction and know better the actions and reaction of the masses! Thus, the leaders prolong their terms! Look at even the most liberal states; let say the USA! We observe that the leaders are controlling the masses by religion! See how the government, with the mouth of the president directs the people against people in another country, saying that they are dangerous, due to their religion!!!! See, everywhere the USA have attacked the last fifty years this is done with the eulogies of the local religion, which plays the role of the motivator for the governing system!

because, with religeon, people will be afraid to do certain things that are considered bad, because they would have terrible concequences when the person is dead. So by believeing that, people will do good things and not bad. If everyone were to do good and not bad, then there would be peace and order...

when you find true religion its more of a relation ship in your heart and spirit! and Gods purpose for us is to gain the spirit of Christ or the holy spirit and to form it with in us. That's why we get Born again to invite God to live in us by his spirit, and he grows us up in his son Jesus image! so we need the bible or religion to obtain the knowledge of the fathers will!!! and then do it, this pleases God.

it's part of our evolution... it's not just our bodies that evolve but our spirits that evolve too... we need perpetually better vehicles to carry our spirits as they evolve... each of those vehicles are major religions and of course there are vehicles within vehicles... just like branches of life...
