every time i go anywhere near its cage it always goes crazy, and flies around like crazy, or it walks away from me. its wings arent clipped, ive had it for about a month or so, and ive left it alone, but i really want to hold it. It's a parakeet.

Well since the wings aren't clipped, I think if you sit in front of the cage for a long time then it may calm down and get used to having you around. I am sure initially the parakeet will make a lot of noise, but over time it will get tired and stop and then..it will get used to you. Also, try having a treat or something in your hands that you can give your parkeet, once it calms down. This is like Pavlov's Classical Conditioning.

parakeets can become tamed pretty easily you just have to go get it's wings clipped and then hold it alot and I don't mean 20 min a day I mean a good hour or so each day if you have to wear a glove and grab it out of the cage it's not mean to do it just allows then to get used to you. you can also use a stick or something as a perch and hold it in there and see if it goes on the stick and allows you to bring it out that way. Good luck!!

patience is the most important thing when trying to hand tame any bird.i would suggest sitting next to the cage with your hand inside but completely ignore the bird.over time your bird will get used to your hand and you should be able to move a little closer each time until the bird finally steps on to you finger! unfortunately i cant tell you how long this process will take as each bird is different,it may be a few days or it may be weeks.some birds really do pick this up quicker than others.try and be patient and i have no doubt you will be rewarded!!!!
