I hope so because I can't really root for guys that I can't identify with. Half of today's boxers look more like guys that would mug you on a poorly lit street corner in NYC. I would like to see some corn-fed, Irish-American white-boys come along and kick some butt again. I don't want to see Russians, I would like to see Irish or Italian boxers regain some prominence in the heavyweight division again. Does anyone think it might happen in my life time.

I know about Jack Johnson, he was an awesome fighter. What's wrong with me wanting to see some white fighters? Black people like to see a good black fighter who is proud of his heritage and so do the Latinos, but I can't do the same? There seems to be a huge double standard here. I see now, it's ok for blacks and Hispanics and every other race on the planet to be proud of who they are, but it isn't ok for me. That is totally sickening, and that is also what is COMPLETELY WRONG with today's world and our society in general.

i hope so.....especially in the heavyweight division. It needs someone unafraid of politics and whos not money hungry......just hungry. i, too, would like to see some white boxers to identify with, but hey...people are people. Each and every person who steps into that ring deserves a certain amount of respect, and if you can identify with any boxer, no matter the color, you can identify with each...at least a little.
remember...there are some good white boxers still. just look back a few years and you'll see mickey ward and the likes...

We are already seeing white boxers becoming more prominent. Just not white American boxers. The europeans and more secifically the Russians have put out some World Cladd boxers within the past few years. In the US though we probably will continue to see a downfall of white and black boxers. The sport here is no longer highly regarded, and most of the athletes who would have boxed 20 yrs ago or more are now going into football, basketball, etc. Boxing has lost steam and is waitinbg in a great american heavyweight, not a great white heavyweight.

Remember that the white guys (I'm white in case it matters!) never "ruled" boxing in the early 20th century to begin with because they refused to fight the African American fighters who proved themselves to be better because they had to work much harder and that scared them! If color matters to you at all, read about Jack Johnson, the first African American heavyweight boxing champion. He had to chase the so called champion at the time, Tommy Burns (white guy!), half way around the world before he would fight Jack Johnson just because he was black. Eventually the fight happened in Sydney, Australia and Jack Johnson knocked out the white "champion" quite easily. They even stopped filming before Tommy Burns was knocked out because of the shame of a white man being knocked out by a black man! There will always be great fighters of all colors but why does it matter? Rocky Marciano was loved by people of all colors at the time as much as other fighters in history of another color. Notice the light weight divisions today - all Asians and Mexicans!! As far as the heavyweight division, I am now a total UFC/MMA fan mainly because most boxers have mostly been boring, with some exceptions - but those guys were not white!! My friend, you should be able to identify with anyone who is successful no matter what their color.
