I don't think it's a question of whether or not one believes in the bible. The bible's existence should not some into question, it does exist, The more important question is how it is interpreted by people. Is it the actual word of God (a relatively modern concept bought about by the church in reaction to scientific advances of the 18th century, prior to this it was not seen as the true word of God) Is it human accounts of ture events in history, or is it allegorical stories, written to demonstrate the concepts of the christian faith. I believe, personally, that it is a combination of the last two.. I am not christian, but I do believe that Christ existed, though I don't know what he was, I do believe that he was a wonderful spiritual man, with many wonderful ideas, but I do think that some bible stories are written to demonstrate the tenets of the christian faith, and may not have been actual events. I don't think that the bible is the actual word of God, I don't think God would have contradicted himself as much as the bible contradicts itself, and there are alot of human constructs in there, I don't mean this as an insult to anyone's faith, I don't think it lessens the bible's importance, but I cannot believe that it is God's own words. I believe that some of the things the bible say's are good and true and everyone can learn from the bible, Jesus said some amazing things, and sometimes it seems that the churches ignore Jesus, who said the meek shall inherit the earth, and yet the catholic church is disgustingly wealthy, I don't mean to sound like a religious nut here, I'm not religious at all, but I do have respect for what Jesus had to say, So whilst I don't believe everything the Bible says, I do believe that the bible exists as part allegory, and part history, and mainly as a very heavy book found in most hotel rooms.

I believe in the Bible because.....
1. It shows the human condition accurately. We are magnificient creatures, able to do great things, endowed with virtue, honor, a sense of justice. Unfortunately, it also shows we all have problems, and we all need help now and then.
2 In the financial realm, it says private property is good (something the Soviet union took 70 years to find out), that we should pay our debts, that we should give to the poor, that people come before profits, and lastly, that money is a tool and not the goal of life.
#. Lastly, I believe the Bible because where it has been put into effect, the lives of people are always better. Look at the way women were treated 100 years ago in Africa, Chian, India, Arabia, and England. Where would you have choosen to live? Notice the economic prosperity of the Protestant countries, and the demise of communist countries. See also the civil rights in places like th U.S, the U.K. and Canada, Australia, The Netherlands, etc. Enough said?

Personally, I believe the Bible because the more research I do (with an open mind for both the negative and positive) the more I find it makes sense. Nothing else I read about stands out like the Bible, and I feel like most people attack it's credibility without realizing that it's stood the test of time unlike any other religious book out there. If there was any viable proof that the Bible was false we sure would know it quickly enough, considering all the publicity it receives.

why i believe: there are more matching and coinciding documents that support the bible's accuracy (who wrote it, when, events within), than that of the works of william shakespeare!
people don't question who wrote hamlet, or if the writer intended for romeo to really be in love with juliet. :)
there have been a LOT of misinterpretations of the bible. anytime we take an extreme approach we will lose accuracy. so, the people who refuse to eat meat, have intercourse during menstruation, or work on the sabbath are putting themselves in an archaic, and unnecessary box. these rules were indeed listed in the old testament, but that does not mean they apply today. in the old testament days there was no such thing as anti-bacterial soap, refrigeration, or the "night shift." it is important to study the bible within the context of time and place.
meanwhile, there are some lessons within the bible that will always hold true: give and it will be given back to you, the most important thing we can do is LOVE, we create either heaven or hell within ourselves.

I believe in the Bible because It is a record of God's revelation of Himself...in the days of the Prophets...and in the fulfillment of the Prophesies. It's an invitation to enter into a Covenant with Him, which, in the past. was only open to Israel. When one enters into Covenant with God, His Holy Spirit is given as Teacher, which brings to life the words of the Bible. Before I became a christian, when I would read the Bible, it was the most boring book and I couldn't understand how people were interested in it. But after, it came alive. I love it because it's like a treasure hunt...there are always surprises and comforts that fill your heart...and it's always fresh and new.

I for one do NOT believe in the bible, no one has the original text manuscript (because it's written by many writers, some of them are anonymous...Anonymous??) did you know that the bible has been through 5 MAJOR revisions. MAJOR not minor. . Its like your great great grandfather made a will, and ur great grandfather changed that will, after that ur grandfather changed that will, and then ur father changed that will, and then You changed that will. The question now is, if that happens , can it still be called ur great great grandfather's will? Of course not!
Now how come some of us still insist that it's original?
and by the way, the bible does contradict science..A LOT.
Believing in Jesus is fine, but being a bible idolator will shut your logic and reasoning.

I for one does not believe in the bible. At best the bible is a collection of parables meant to teach lessons. But then so were the ancient greek and roman mythologies. The bible is the work of men, and men only, no divine spirit involved and was never intended to be taken literally. Has to laugh how some people treat the bible as some kind of history book when it is more comparable to those greek and roman mythologies......the bible - christiam mythology...there you go.

Men wrote the bible, and then edited it to fit what they wanted people to believe.
I have faith, but I am by no means a religious person. My grandfather was, so I have read much of the bible. He started Our Daily Bread, and edited it for many years so I still read it frequently even though he has passed away. It helps reaffirm and reassure my faith. Everyone has their own interpretation on the bible, so how can we place all of our belief in a book that everyone can come up with their own conclusions to.

I don't believe in the bible because it was written by man many many years after the events supposedly happened. Thats like if someone wrote about Pres Bush in 500 years when no one else had written about him. I'm sure there would be TONS of inacurracies. Plus it was written in a whole different language, and there are many translation errors which change ALOT of the meanings.

Because it is God's Love Letter to me. I would not call it logical exactly. I call it faith. I believe that my Prince of Peace came to this earth to die for me even though I did not deserve it. Before and after that time, He breathed words into men who ultimately wrote the Bible. And I have found it to be very historically correct. I would suggest watching the DVD series "Drive Through History." Extremely entertaining and helpful at the same time.
