People tend to fear that which they do not understand, or which challenges their preconcieved notions about their world. This is particularly true for those who are insecure in their avowed "beliefs," which are actually nothing more than "inherited" beliefs from their parents. The unexamined faith is actually no faith at all. It's almost axiomatic that the more insecure people are in their own faith, the more hostile they are to the faiths of others.

That's why they seem to be afraid of you, and why they seem antagonistic: you call into question beliefs about which they themselves are insecure.

I am not afraid of pagans, christians, athiests, muslims, buddhists, whatever. Each person should have the free choice to pursue what they believe or feel to be the right path for them. Individuals are unique and not everyone fits into the same religious mold. I don't like other people pushing their religion on me after I state that whatever they choose to follow or join is fine but that does not mean I want to follow in their path. That has happened from several directions, not just one type of religion or non-religion. I happen to have been brought up christian and still feel some of the teachings are true (some do not feel so right anymore), and I have been leaning toward spiritualist, which some christians feel is partly pagan in nature as they talk to spirit guides and also do healing through auras - some people who attend are christian while some are other religions or none in particular. Ah well, that is my choice, but I still respect theirs for their own choices.
I think you are wrong for generalizing and placing all people who are christians into a box and labeling it ignorance. That is what ignorance is, not really knowing. And you can not say that all christians have this fear you speak of. I can say many don't, some do, just as some pagans do and some don't. It is up to the individual and it crosses over all religions, the fear or the acceptance. It is not a criteria of being a certain religion. In a way, you seem afraid, as you are placing your question in a hostile fashion that evokes people to react in the wrong way, regardless of their religious beliefs, in an effort to put them on the defense so that you feel less so.

There;s ignorance on both sides of the fence you know. Some Christians hate and fear people, such as pagans for nothing more than their religious beliefs. You, in the same manner, assume that this represents all Christians. I myself am Christian, but I have a great respect for other religions, especially those of a pagan nature. I'm no fool. Pagan religions have been around a lot longer than Christianity.

ignorence and a nagging suspicion of being led by the nose,(for ever)

they will blow their circuits if they find out the truths
that they have been brainwashed
,to disbelief that their god is only an extraterrestrial Anunaki.

that the Adam story was not just two people but a whole race that was genetically engineered and cloned as a slave race to mine gold for the Anunakis.

that they have been under the mind control of the Illuminati ever since

that the only real gods are the Pagan ones ,like Gaia and Baal .

that they would technically become the real Atheists as well as traitors to the Genuine Gods .

all of this would be too much
and they will be scrambling to get the hell out of here
.but where will they go
if the rest was not real
their Paradise may also be in question

at least for us Pagans we are already in our Paradise
and we dont have to die to get there

anybody, faced with these posibilities, would be worried

Not all Christians hate Pagans, heck I am a Christian who converted to Paganism, those do usually hate them because they only know what their pastor says, or their own misguided beliefs. Even in the Bible it says that those of other religions will be allowed in to Heaven, and not just Christians. I think that it is a little bit of self denial on those Christians part. One of my best friends is a preacher's daughter, and she and I get along just fine. A lot of the Bible got lost in translation over the ages, so it is not surprising that most Christian's today do not accept most of the other religions out there because of the single mindedness of their fore fathers.

I do not think all Christians are this way though my own grandmother is a stanch Christian and seems to be accepting of my religious choice. I do not believe in all of the Bible anymore because of what I have learned in my own personal life and in college. That being said, I do not mean that I all of the Bible is false; I just taht leteral interpritation is abit far for me, and no intention of downing any religion much less one of "The Big Three". Rhonda I kinda feel sorry for you. Just because we do not believe the same thing dose mean we friends, you still be friends with someone and agree to disagree religiously with them, like me and some of my friends.

With that I close this semi meaningless rant.

24 y.o. Pagan

Blessed be.

I don't think Christians should be afraid of paganism. The only fear I have is that most Christians don't really understand paganism and in turn feel unable to be open to discussion.

It's intolerance, caused by ignorance.

I've (much to my amusement) watched people cross the street to avoid me if I'm wearing a tank top (pentagram tattoo on my sholder) and I can only conclude it's because of they're afraid of what they don't understand.

Anyone who would make an effort to understand what we believe, can still agree to disagree without blasting insults and propeganda.

Ignorant people will either refuse to understand, or only listen to one or very few opinions, and therefore form an idea and refuse to challenge that idea.

Why would "God" give us a mind, and free will, then refuse you to use it, or worse, punish you if you try? For goodness sake, EDUCATE yourselves, you will see that the primary message of every faith is the same. It doesn't matter what path you take, the destination is the same!!!

I say it's a sin to remain ignorant, and to hate people for reasons you don't understand.

I am Christian and what I am afraid of is that you will spend eternity in Hell. Why do I care if you go to Hell or not? Because Jesus cares. Everyone lives forever, it is one place (heaven) or another (hell).

I have no animosity towards you. I am sadden that you must have met a christian who showed you animosity, when they should have shown you love.

I was once a pagan but I found Christ on one of the hardest nights of my life. The answer to your question is found in the bible: Deuteronomy 18:9-12 says, "When you arrive in the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering. And do not let your people practice fortune-telling or sorcery, or allow them to interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth spirits of the dead. Anyone who does these things is an object of horror and disgust to the Lord." These dire warnings against Paganism are found all throughout the bible. The Bible is our guide to life, therefor we will try to do what it says. Christians are not afraid, with God on our side we've nothing to fear, but it hurts us to see our brothers and sisters falling into the hands of the one who wants to destroy them. That's why Christians get so zealous in their work. They are trying every way they know to help their fellows find God. Unfortunately, sometimes we all listen to the Devil instead of God because he has a knack for telling us what we want to hear instead of the truth. When that happens we resort to our own ways of dealing with non-believers. We become violent and mean, but God offers a gentle rebuke. He will never leave you. I pray that you see that and that you don't hold our shortcomings against the Almighty God.

I'll bet my a** you're a young'n.
What qualifies you as a Pagan?!
Young folks try so hard to find themselves that they end up getting lost in fads, like occults, anything that makes them stand out and appear different from their peers.
And, true Christians positively have nothing to fear.
Ignorance? Look in the mirror.

Its ignorance. Christians know little about paganism, and only hear it is wrong, and bad, and satan worship, and evil. Not many seek out to learn about people on an individual basis.

(Of course, many non-believers do the same thing to believers, so the door swings both ways)
