How many Democrats exercise their Second Amendment rights? And if you do, do you own a handgun or a larger weapon? (Dispense with the "Democrats dont believe in guns they want the UN to take over - those and other comments we have all heard before!) And my answer is I'm a Democratic handgun owner.

Second Amendment - Bearing Arms
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I'm a Democrat and I want to own a 20 g. shotgun. I don't have a enough money to buy the gun and the membership to a cool sports(wo)men's club.

That being said, I do not believe that the Second Amendment in any way guarantees my right to own a firearm. That Amendment is about national security when read in context, not personal rights to firearms. We didn't have a standing army back then, folks. We had to count on the citizens to arm themselves back then to provide for our national defense, not to encourage and protect private militias.

Read it in context...lest you be rightfully accused of an activist interpretation of our Constitution.

I would bet that more than half of them do. Here's why I think that.

The three biggest enclaves of Democrats is in the Northeast part of the U.S., metropolitan areas, and the West Coast.

I think that most people on the West Coast have guns, not for protection from crime, but for protection against the elements. There are more critters endangered in forest fires and there is more open space in the west. In urban centers where there is more crime, I would bet that the liberal democrat would shoot a criminal twice if the criminal endangered his family.

I think a lot more Democrats own guns than would like to let on. But if I had a gun, I wouldn't tell anyone about it, either. Just talking about it could get you dead.

I'm getting a gun and a conceal and carry license. A relatively liberal Democrat cannot be too cautious in these crazy times. Living in the reddest part of a red state is no piece of cake, you know.

I'm Dem and I own 19 guns, since we can't have full auto, mine are all semi auto, rifles & shotguns 7.62 Nato, 250 Roberts, and 223, shotguna are 20 gage, 12 gage, and 10 gage. the only way I will give them up is whensomeone prys them out of my dead hands. and then they better watch their asses because all of my neighbor also have their guns and when the shootin starts you can bet they will be on my side.
