I have a chicken egg that may possibly be fertile. I've had it for 3 days but I wanted to know what kind of chicken it might be if it hatches? the egg is white. I know Rhode island reds and other chicken breeds lay white ones but what breed do you think my egg might turn out to be if it hatches?

Sapphyre, incase you wanted to know the egg is kept in a incubator. Its one I've made myself using a plastic box, towels, a heating pad and a small container of water for humidity.

I turn the egg over like a lot of poultry websites recommend.

I've only had it for 5 days, but I think its alive. When I candled it today it was darker on the inside and the faint lines that I've seen in the egg are a bit more pronouned then they were when I first got the it.

But I'll find out on July 14th IF it possibly hatches on that date which is exactly 21 days.

Anconas and White Leghorns lay white eggs. True Rhode Island Reds lay brown eggs, though. (I've raised them) If the egg is a good bit smaller than the eggs you'd buy in the store, it might be a bantam (miniature chicken) egg. There are many breeds of chickens that lay white eggs--try going to a hatchery website such as Murray Mcmurray ( http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/ ) and looking at the breeds they carry that lay white eggs.

I hope you have a hen to put the egg under or an incubator. . . :)

What exactly do you plan to do with that chicken if it hatches?
And lots of chickens lay white eggs. Depends on their diet, not the breed. Well, okay, some of it depends on breed. but not all of it. Guess you just have to wait it out.

Well if you are not keeping it in an incubator nothing is going to hatch out of it. The egg needs to be warm and has to be turned every so often.

what ever kind of chicken comes out, just don't count on the 21 days, sometimes it's sooner and sometimes it will take a couple days longer. don't throw it out on the 21st day.
