After a weekend of camping at a lake, my 6 yr old lab may have over done it. After a weekend of swimming & hiking She now is not eating, drinking or moving very well. Should I take her to the vet or wait it out?

That depends on how long she has been acting that way if it was just today and she is just catching up on some rest i would think she'd be fine. If it continues tommorrow then yes. How about ticks did she get bit dogs are at risk for Lyme disease.

Yes. Absolutely!

I am pretty experienced with being able to care forr most of my dog's ailments without needing a vet, but this sounds like some sort of disease. Not an injury.

In the case of disease, it is necessary to first determine what organism is causing it, then what antibiotics it is susceptible to. A vet is best equiped to do that.

If you use the wrong medicine, or the wrong dose of medicine, or stop using it before the organism is completely destroyed, you run the risk of creating a "superbug." Misuse of these medicines creates becteria and viruses that are resistant or totally immune to them.

Did your dog get any ticks on him? Did she come into contact with bird droppings? I'm willing to bet that one or both of those situations is what led to your dog coming down ill.

Either way, you vet will be able to determine the best course of action.

Some diseases have a very short incubatory time, and once they got systemic, your dog will fade fast, reducing her chance to recover with treatment.

Get her to a vet fast.

In the meantime, try to get her to eat and drink. To eat, try Chruche's Chicken (carefully remove ALL bones!). Peanut butter is also good. If your dog refuses these, she's got a medical emergency. Literally! To get her to drink, add some sugar or honey to her water, to sweeten it up. If that don't work, just watch for signs of dehydration. Lightly pinch the skin between her shoulder blades. In a well-hydrated dog, the skin should snap back. In the worst cases, the skin will retain it's shape as if you never let go of the skin and were still holding it.

If she is that bad, don't feed her, as that will dehydrate her even worse.

I suggest you find a vet that will bring her in right now, no matter how late or early the time of day.

She may have eaten something out in the wilderness that made her sick, or she may have been bitten by some kind of spider or something else. You should take her to the vet right away. And be sure to let the vet know where she has been. It may not be anything serious, but the vet will be able to tell you that, and wouldn't you rather know? The vet can remove any doubt.

Was the weather really hot? It may be heat stroke. Too much time in sun and being black. Check and make sure there are no puncture wounds on her from a poison snake bite. I don't know where you are but all these are possibilities. It should be checked out as soon as possible, as these are serious symptoms . You said there was a lake. Maybe she drank some nasty water. Good luck with your beloved pet.

Take her to the vet tomorrow--it could just be that she's overdone it, but if she's not eating or drinking she'll be dehydrated in a very short period of time. It could be something more serious as well, only your vet will be able to tell you.

take her to the vet as soon as possible, my aunt's dog once got overheated and got really sick. don't worry though, the dog's alright now, but your dog's probably in a lot of pain. if you don't take her in, then at least be very persistent that she eat, and especially drink.

I would take her in as soon as possible. Maybe she ate or drank something that didn't agree with her? You'll feel better once you know for sure. Good luck!
