I know, I'm going to get a lot of "Of course not. Jesus is my personal Savior...etc" answers. (which is fine)

What I am asking is, are there others out there who feel saying "I am Christian" leads others to believe things about your beliefs that are not true?

I'm an atheist, not Christian, but I do often have the same problem. Many people assume that just because I don't believe in god, I must be some sort of evil, immoral baby killer.

People will always judge you, no matter what your beliefs. All you can do is refuse to judge in return.

I do feel "weird" sometimes, especially when I'm mentioning it to a non-Christian. It's easy to tell a fellow Christian. Unbelievers immediately size you up when you tell them you're a Christian. They also watch you more closely. I guess I feel more self-conscious about what I do, which may not be such a bad thing. Also, when I do mess up and fall short, I feel horrible that people judge Christ by my life. They shouldn't, but they do. All I can do is point to Christ as the only way to heaven. I've never denied being a Christian. My hubby's big family is Catholic, they all know I'm a Christian even though I haven't spoken to all of them about my belief in Christ. They call themselves Catholics not Christian.

Truthful- JW's don't believe Jesus Christ is God, they believe He is the Son of God, but not God. JW's don't believe in the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), JW's don't believe heaven and hell exists, JW's believe the devil is also God's son. JW's are NOT Christians. Call yourself something else, but not a Christian. JW's are widely accepted as a cult. Stop deceiving people.

Well yes--there is a lot of pagans out there.

Along with perverts and others who hate real morals. Who knows who your talking too when you say "I am a Christian". It is like putting a target on your back.

And yes I have heard others say things about someones belief that was way of base. And it has happened to me too. Makes you wonder why on earth would you think that.
We should all be taught what basic beliefs are and not what we have been told or led to belief. Maybe a cheat sheet (excuse pun)of some kind.

It is a weird feeling.

"What I am asking is, are there others out there who feel saying "I am Christian" leads others to believe things about your beliefs that are not true?" - well, JW's get that a lot! Many professed Christians believe that we are not Christians or that we don't even follow Christ! But Christ is our reigning King and Saviour, but we don't go around preaching that. We just talk about today's problems and how to help solve them, by the bible's principles. If ones want to learn more about the bible and receive accurate knowledge, then we are ready to help out by volunteering our time for them. But I suppose that many "Christians" don't agree with the JW's since I know that we get a lot of misunderstandings. But that's to be expected, since Christ forewarned his disciples about this type of persecution.

Just who are we? We are a worldwide Christian society of people who actively bear witness regarding Jehovah God and his purposes affecting mankind. We base our beliefs solely on the Bible. There are many misunderstandings on our beliefs about the Bible, God, Jesus Christ, God's Kingdom, Heavenly Life, The Earth, Death, Last Days, Separation from the World, Blood, Applying Bible counsel, Holidays and so forth. However, everything we say or do is solely based on the accurate knowledge found in the Holy Scriptures. JW's go way back to faithful Abel, Adam and Eve's son.

Frankyglitz - First of all, to be a Christian, you would not go and be rude to people. Second of all, obviously you are one of the people who have misconceptions about us. It's all true what you stated! I don't disagree with you one bit. That's exactly what the bible says. I'm glad that you know what we believe in, too bad you didn't realize that the bible says that. However, we do believe that heaven exsists (the bible mentions where God and his angels and others live in heaven) and it also states that hell is just the ground, no it does not state that hell is a fiery place of torment - certainly a loving God would not provide that! Yes, the devil was one of God's sons. He made millions of angels (and it just so happen that one of them became the opposer and the deceiver). True, we are widely accepted as a cult, thanks to the devil "blinding the minds of the unbelievers" and "transforming himself into an angel of light". Do you know what a cult even is? It's a religion that is said to be unorthodox or that emphasizes devotion according to prescribed ritual. Cults follow a living human leader, JW's follow Christ. We do not isolate ourselves from the rest of society. We live and work in the midst of other people. Maybe you should look into it further before you go accusing others without proof.

When I say I am a Christian people automatically say...well I am too! I think they are confusing religion with not understanding what "having a personal relationship with the Lord", means. So, it can be a touchy subject when dealing with "religious" people...they can become offended. They need to understand the concept of "being born again", which is difficult for people who believe in GOD, to understand. That's where the difficulty comes in.

I have to admit, that I used to.

I think it was because, while I had accepted Jesus Christ as my personal LORD and savior, I knew I was not walking with him yet.

As I grew and came to know more and more of his word, I became more and more comfortable with my convictions and was able to calmly and confidently defend my faith.

But even today, when someone is truely being hateful to my faith, I will stay quiet , rather than take the bait into an argument where the persons eyes are closed.
Sorta like arguing with a drunk, it gets you nowhere.

Sometimes. I get nervous about a lot of things pretty easily. But I know it's important to let people know I'm a Christian and try to be a good witness to them of who God is. The more practice you get at it the easier it is to do. I don't worry about it like I used to.

Jesus did say that the world would hate us because of his name. Christianity is the most hated because of its standards and the reality it implies. People are scared of there being a true God. Yet, christians have to continue to pray and spread the gosple.
