Any job can be fun if you like what you're doing. If you want to be a bartender, go to bartending school to see if it's right for you. Or maybe you'll be lucky and find a bartending job at a really neat place. Have an open mind and try your luck. The worst that could happen is you find out you don't like it and move on to something different.

I was a bartender for 7 years. For the most part I really loved the job. I worked at a lodge though where the same people came in every night. I didn't have to worry about bar fights and such though.
I worked one night with a friend of mine at a popular bar and we had to call the police 3 times. That part I didn't like. You also have to worry about serving someone too much and them getting in an accident and it coming back on you.. That's kind of scary.
Working at the lodge was great because no one woud let someone else drive drunk. For the most part it was fun. But, obnoxious drunks are really hard to put up with. I asked why most bartenders quit, and was told after awhile they just get sick of it all. That's what happened to me. I just got burnt out, but for awhile it was really fun.
I'd definitely go for it. Don't know where you are, but don't count on big tips unless you're in a resort area. I didn't make good tips, but I loves getting to know and talking to the people. You definitely have to be a people person to be a bartender and not get your feelings hurt easily. Some people can be real jerks, especially when they are drunk.
I think if that's what your really want to do, go for it. You don't have to do it the rest of your life. Have fun while you can.

Yes. Do Get a job bartending. It is fun and you meet some great people. But get it at a really nice place, so you dont have to put up with a bunch of creeps! They are out there. Also the tips are good when you are at a nice establishment. Get a bartending book to look at. On the job training is the fast way to learn drink recipes and get familiar with the ways of the bartender.

Bar tending is a great job. I love it. Its not just making drinks though. You have to be very diplomatic and unopinionated. Friendly, but stern. And you have to know how to get people out of your bar when they have had to much to drink without them realizing they are being kicked out for the night. Especially regulars. The fun part is getting to know your regulars, they will end up your friend. I still keep in contact with almost every one I ever met being their bartender even though I dont work at their bar anymore. And they are always happy to see me when I come in to visit. If you like people you'll love it. Its not a permanent job though. I am now going to school to get my real estate license. The people and sales skills I got from bar tending I couldn't have gotten anywhere else. I'm 27 and still young. I am getting out of it. Its a good job to know. If I am ever between jobs in the future I can always temporarily fall back on bar tending. But have you ever looked at a 40 year old bartender? They look 65! It will wear you down if you dont get out. Its one of those jobs that is fun while it last, but know when its time to go. And have fun while your doing it.

If you like working nights, weekends, holidays - then this might be the right job for you. Don't forget smoky bars, drunk guys/girls hitting on you, the scare of closing a bar at 1am all by yourself. Maybe you had to tell someone NO to whatever he/she wanted that night?! Is the parking lot empty or was someone waiting for you to close up?!?
I really don't mean to scare you - it can be a fun job. If you really really want it - go the extra step: Get a really good education, attend bar tending seminars, apply at a casino or at a hotel bar or at a fancy restaurant. Bar tending can be more than just tapping beer!

I bartend....
Depends on the place, area you live... etc.
You can make little money... or make lots of money. You will likely end up a serious drinker.
The gals I work with are all hoes... they are just one step away from being strippers since they are working for tips from drunkin sleazebag guys. I deal with drunkin old ladys who wanna take me home, It really doesnt make me feel flattered.
It can be a lot of fun if the conditions are right... but I would rather have the money and be on the opposite side of the bar. Your kissing the asses of drunk people... lots of them are completely brainless and rude.

I have only befriended one bartender, seeing as how I am not old enough to drink....but she did not like her job much. She said she constantly had to deal with the drunks and it wasn't as glamorus as most people think. I suppose that would depend entirely on where you work...a scummy bar or a nice resort or a beach or a hotel.....

Bartending is an OK occupation. Women do very well in tips if they want to flirt. Mixologists are few and far between, but still, if you know every drink that everyone who comes to your bar drinks, you still can not get tips unless you are female, That's why I gave it up.

Well it depends if you want to make a career out of it. I have been there four years and after that, you need to recycle your future into something else. Otherwise you will never get out of it. This is a nice job to meet people and grow social skills. But you have to look "what after?"
Good luck :)
